Im finally coming to the end of my restoration project. The original starter worked good then all of a sudden would barely spin and the bolt that the positive from the battery cable would get red hot. So I replaced it with a napa starter and it worked great for about a week and is now doing the same thing as the old one, except red hot stud. Is this a faulty starter from napa? Or is there and electrical issue with my car? I have a brand new painless wiring harness, new battery cables, battery is good, and good grounds. I am going to get a fj60 starter and try that, just want to make sure I'm not gunna fry that as well.It spins fine with no spark plugs in as well. I also don't ahave a ballers resister for the coil yet, could that be a problem? I know it needs one

Just to eliminate some issues, did this problem begin AFTER the new painless harness, or did it exist before the new harness? Where is the battery ground wire attached? Frame? Engine block?

The problem began after the painless harness was installed, I have a battery ground to chasis, chasis to engineblock, attached to starter

Wonder what load it is drawing, napa stuff isnt what it used to be.. you may have just got a bad one... Look at a later gear reduction starter,

Definitely a good bet getting the GR starter I have one in my 72' worth the buy.
