your work is good some how i missed the point i would have sold the 40 bought a body and put it on the frame to me you are stepping down using a pickup and wrecking a 40 for no reason i wish you luck and keep up the good work

well, the reason i used the pickup chassis, is that it was already built and a bit lighter then the 40 frame. my pickup already had dual cases, ARBs F/R, just a nice buit up truck.
now the 40 was a pile of rust. had holes everywhere, the whole rear sill was gone, lots of holes in the floor board. the orginal PO swaped a V8 into the truck and did a horable job at it.
I am keeping the FJ40 chassis and building it up slowly (after this build) and putting an alu (or new steel) tub on it and building a nice driver.

oh, i will be driving this on the highway
this beast is coming down in height very soon. i want to get the body work done first, then its getting dropped. i can get at least 3 inches just from making it almost touch the frame, then another 10 (hopfully) by reworking the suspension yea, lots of work, but since i have everthing i need (from dismantling both trucks, this built isnt costing me much money. thats the main reasion i am doing it. i am poor

Bad ass project! Can't wait to see the end result. I think it's a great idea. That 40's body was too far gone for a restore anyway. Awesome work! Can't wait to see it in action. What are you going to do about the hard top? Are you just going to run no top or a soft top? I'm surprised you didn't just make it a flat bed or FJ45 type body! Thanks for the pics.
The reasons dont matter much to me. I really enjoy watching someone build something different and providing good pictures while doing it. Keep em comming.

the hard top will be made to fit the PO cut holes in the roof for some sky lights and it was faling off so it was trashed. i will end up extending the sids, and most likly build up a mold to make a new 40 top.
but for now, it will just have a open top
and the flat bed idea was in my head, i just like the idea of having an extra seat in the back
and thanks to all the kind words. i hopfully will have this thing going in a month or two.

nice project it made me think back a few years iv built trucks for lots of people around here when i was younger now that im 60 i think why do they do that . my son saw your photos he is 15 and wants to do the same thing with 1 of his cruisers. so i geuss i will be busy this winter helping him keep up the good work and thanks for the photos

well, got most of the new flooring welded in. i spot welded it all on, then went under the truck and put stitch welding all over. i guess i was a little paranoid about it coming loose I also added some extra bracing between that new cross member and the rear of the tub.
Tonight i will go ahead and finish welding up that center hump and start fabing up the new center bolt on hump.

I have a 103" 4X4 pickup frame and I was thinking of doing the same with my '69 tub. I can't wait to see how yours turns out.
