Gents maybe I'm not conducting a proper search or using the wrong verbiage but I'm looking for a teardown sequence for my 71 body. The top is a no brainer but a little 101 on what needs to come off for the cab would be helpful. I'm a little behind the 8-ball but I do plan to purchase some manuals.

I've been pulling obvious parts off my 40 like the bumpers, cowl cover, side vents etc.. and sandblasting and epoxy priming them. So I guess I'm trying to get info on the front cab disassembly sequence.

Remove fasteners and items until the tub is free from the frame?


There is not really a step by step out here on this.

Work from the outside to the inside. How far do you plan to go with this?? Completely stripped?
 
If you are re-using the tub, avoid breaking bolts welded/caged to the tub. Hitting bolts with a torch will be key. Don’t screw up the caged tranny hump nuts:D
 
i wanted to ask the same questions when i started mine, truth is there really is no sequence, just jump right in and start taking stuff apart. take lots of pictures and dont get distracted with things along the way. take notes of things you find that need fixin. once you get everything apart to your satisfaction sit back and re-prioritize your game plan.

but always underany circumstance save everything throw nothing away!!!!

Many a good intention owner has started this process, only to find the project again, years later, after a divorce or life happenings, and have thousands of dollars dumped into a Land Cruiser that, when they are a non-running lego kit, do not typically fetch 25% of what you have into it.

truth be told i have had plenty dreams and goals gone wrong, but i have made this MY priority. i consider it a step in the right direction lol. not to mention the money into it and not even rolling yet hahahahaaa

well its time to get back up and out to the garage, got to get the frame off the horses and reorganize he garage to get ready for the next step in my evolution
 
I understand fully fellows and thanks for all the replies. This is going to be a frame off project. I'm big on documenting my projects with bookoo pictures, notes and a list of what needs replacing. Me and a friend recently completed a 67 Mustang Fastback project which was pretty challenging. I learned a ton from my project and fully understand the major commitment. My car came out exceptionally well and now I've been bit by the FJ40 bug. So my Jeep Wrangler will be making it's way to a new home very soon. I've always wanted a 40 and was able to get a good deal on a 1971 Heinz 57 model. This 40 actually has rear ambulance doors and some later model parts so some swapping was done by the PO. It also has a Painless wiring upgrade which I'm happy about. The frame is in excellent shape and it will be going to the sandblaster, It's too big a project for me to handle. I also have some moderate body rust repair to make.

So I started by pulling off everything to include the cowl vent, running boards, bumpers, wiper cover, front bezel etc... I sandblasted all the parts and painted them with PPG epoxy primer and regular PPG primer. I'm keeping a list of all the fasteners from each part and bagging everything. Pretty much every fastener will be replaced. I'm getting ready to paint the bumpers and front bezel with proper color and store them. Now I'm trying to decide on a color and paint some of the smaller body parts. Once my Jeep is gone, Ill move it into the garage and start major disassembly.

I'll have lots of questions and I'm sure some of them will be some simple minded stuff. Please have some mercy on me.

I always keep lots of beer in the fridge which keeps me dedicated and focused. Much appreciation to all.
