I am still in the planning stage on my build. I am trying to decide on engine/tranny/t-case options. I have seen others suggest going with a 4L60E, but isn't that just the latest version of a 700R4 designed to work via the computer?

Thanks for your input and sorry if I am posting in the wrong spot.

Yes and no! The gearing and strength are about the same, but that's where the similarities end. The 4L60E is an electronically shifted tranny, consequently needs the 1993+ engine and ECU to support it. If your engine was not originally equipped with a 4L60E, then I suggest you use the 700R4. For more exact info, PM me!!

I think I am going to stick with my plan for to 700R4...

How is Whittier these day? I used to live there back in the 70's.

If you use the 700R4 (that's what I'm using in present rig), make sure you get the good oiling upgrade, then make sure you install a Painless #60109 control switch kit into it. Whittier is not much different than the 1970's, typical new stores.

I had 245k on my 4L60E (93 GMC) before it needed rebuilding, and it saw a lot of towing and four wheeling. I never ran the 700R, so can't compare.
