70 windshield

Broke my windshield yesterday and i was very surprise to see it explode in million of pieces! it hade a label on it, toyota and round logo plus giovani and it was all over tinted!! Does all oem windshield on the 70 are make like that or it is supposed to have a plastic layer inside. thank

When I flipped mine if it wasn't for the window tints holding it all together it could of been worse . I was surprised about that too

All the australian models have laminated safety glass by law for a long time,looks like you had one that wasnt laminated.
I havent seen an unlaminated windscreen for 30 years

I guess it depends on which country you are in.

I rolled a 91 suzuki sj410 in 1999. A few days later the windscreen shattered into thousands of pieces.

roscoFJ73, you probably right, this was not the original( cheked the pictures of the PO) but it as been installed in France. I asked if we could order 2 type of glass here in Canada and i dont think so. I wonder what kind of damage to me would i get if i received a flying stone, no matter the size? Thank.

I had a stone hit my 1969 Holden in the 70s and it was just a small hole. The real problem is you cant see where you are going,which is maybe another reason why they switched to laminated glass .I also think its stops passengers from going through the windscreen to some extent.

Does anyone have access to a 70 series windshield frame, no rust? If not, is anyone looking at ordering one and wants to split shipping?

2 questions...Somebody can confirm me this number 56111-60220 is for a 2012 lancruiser windshield and this one will fit on a 1986 bj 70,74 ,75 etc, i'm in Canada ...have a really hard time with it. No after market for north America, only toyota seem to supply it but they can't tell me it will fit...so no shop want to order one (of course)
and in Canada,the reason to add adhesive, is it for safety reason or it's for sealing?

I would guess Toyota ( or any manufacturer for that matter ) would not arbitrarily
install optional safety equipment that was not required by the country of destination in a effort to reduce cost. I would also assume a P.O. would install inferior glass for the same reason.

I'm almost positive that's the part number I used when i replaced the windshield on my HZJ-75 Troopie about a year and a half ago. Spendy friggin windshield Fo Sho, but with the lack of aftermarket glass, it's all you got

Get a new gasket also while you are at it, money well spent, and make sure they use the sealant, it will save you pain later

There are 2 windscreens for the 7* series,one for the fold down windscreen frame and one for the fixed frame.
The 73/74 and 75 series cab chassis have the fold down frame

The 70(hard top) 75 troopy 76/77/78/79 has the fixed frame

You have posted that it is a 70 series windscreen you are enquiring about but your signature lists a BJ75 Exactly what model do you have?

Edited They are using a different part number for the rubber weather strip/seal on fixed frame models from 2007 on.
Its possible the glass is glued to the rubber,rather than fitting into a slot. Ive seen some cars like this.
Ill try and have a closer look at one today

I know on the 80 series, even though the glass fits into the slot in the gasket, the FSM still calls for the adhesive IIRC. They didn't use the adhesive/glue/whatever on my Troopie when they installed my new WS even thought I specifically told them to.

I figured out that they didn't use it when my windshield leaked on the first good rain

I do have a troopie and did not tought about fold down one, sorry. I have a new rubber weatherstrip with the groove for the glass. It seem to have 4 different part number back in 86. one with the mention lam. The dealer could see 2 number but both was impossible to order!!! when he try the new number i gave to him, it was write a cross reference to one of the old number (tempered, not laminated)
Like phrogg4evr wrote, in my FSM it is write to add adhesive (primer and cemedine) ...no one have a clue and the dealer told me he can't order that? So i checked 3M but i'm 100% sure about what to use.
I will have some new Friday from acess industrial for part number. to be followed

I have an '87 BJ70 from Canada. I purchased it this past March in Calgary. Knowing the windshield was toast I thought I sourced one from Crystal Glass in Calgary. Reasonable price I even bought 2, one for another BJ70 owner near me. Loaded in the BJ and drove home to Nor Cal. Finally got around to body work and paint and lo and behold the glass did not fit. Contacted Crystal Glass, they cross checked the part number and said the number was correct. After trying to figure out the problem they refunded the cost of both windshields. Contacted several LC suppliers. No luck!

I went to my local Toyota dealership and ordered a factory windshield. Delivered with in 2 days. $640 plus tax. Part # 56111-60220. Had it professionally installed. Sweet but pricey.

I went and had a look at a 2012 79 series today and the windscreen does seem to be the same but they are using a different style rubber seal with the new type being less bulky than the 80s and 90s models and a different profile.

The air bag dash 7X series have a full glued in glass and extra metal tabs around the window frame. Probably just as locators while the sikaflex sets.

Yes of course ,air bags. Looks like that have also shifted the antennae to the LH side.

Just received news from the part director at Acces Industrial (toyota) and yes on the computer, the number 56111-90k02 is related to the new one 56111-60220.
Is there a particular reason to have a weatherstrip rubber windshield on the landcruiser and some others...like being in remote area or mines or terrible vibrations, shocks instead of having urethane glued WS
Just wonder ....

Is your old one no good? I dont know what the urethane weather strip is like,I would probably stick with the rubber one out of fear of the unkown.
The rubber is about a $100 new from aussie ebay
