Hey everyone,

So lets paint this picture for ya...
I'm toying with the idea of acquiring a real nice JDM HZJ77. (Pictured)

1998714

Now being from Canada, I've been teased with the Unicorn that is the new body style 70 Series Cruisers that are available in Australia/ Emirates etc...
1998716

I do have access to body parts from these new style cruisers and I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light as to whether I can install the new style fenders/ hood/ grille and lights onto the 77.

Couple questions I can't seem to find the answer to;

1. Do the Post 2007 Fenders line up to the pre 2006 Cab?
2. Can I install a Post 2007 Rad support for the fenders on the 77 frame, or do I need to modify the existing Rad Support?
3. Does the Post 2007 Hood line up with the existing brackets and cab?

If anyone has done this conversion or knows anything about it, I'd love to get some info! Thanks for looking and stay tuned for updates!

If you check the frame measurements, the front body mounts need to be 50mm wider than the 1st gen style. Inner fender to firewall is the same mounting locations. I believe there is one additional mount on the inner fender which needs to be adjusted slightly, but everything else is OK. My plan is for the same thing so I have been researching heavily about this and talking with those who have done it. I'm sure things like the fuse block will not mount the same with new innder fenders. The air intake box is slightly dsifferent too, but I think it will be close enough to make it work. AC condenser mounting will need to be custom or updated. But firewall->back of truck is the same on HZJ77 to 2007-2009 HZJ76. 2010+ changed dash so the firewall mounts are going to be different.

So:
1. yes
2. You need post 2007+ rad support and adjust frame mounts 50mm wider per side
3. yes

Thank you! Appreciate the info dude!

wow, just writing this here for future people reading and considering this. this is the worst idea I have ever heard. like someone with a 2024 Bronco enquiring about a body swap with a bronco sport. The original 70 series front clip is the only one. everything after 2017 is nasty toy garbage. not an opinion, fact, the only good looking 70 front clip is the original one. like having someone edit the mona lisa.

For a guy who does not own a 7x series.

2007 when wider nose appeared. Wider to fit the V8.

Now don’t hold back, tell us how you really feel. 😁

hahahaha, i mean, cmon, this is how everyone should feel ;) why would you want a grille that is literally "trying" to be something rather then a grille that IS something? like buying a peterbilt and fitting a dodge caravan cab to it somehow. only half joking around haha.

MWB and SWB look great with the later model clip. Plenty of people have done it here in Aus.

Whole front clip bro

I think so yes. pretty clear by what i said above no? every one is entitled to their opinion. but if you really wana argue about it. the original front end along with the rest of the body was shaped completely out of purpose. it was all metal. nothing was done casue some one in the design room thought a middle age man-baby would think it was "cool". the newer front clip is styled, effectively taking this car out of utilitarian world and into angry eye jeep territory. eh, Theres gotta be ugly cars to make the dope ones look dope. thank you for your service!

And when you voice your opinion in public other people can respond how they want.

I think they early front clip has style too, I like them both.

Cheers

It’s probably about now, that you’re asking yourself, why on earth did I ask this question on this forum.
😁

This is like arguing that RED is better than BLUE.

The beauty of ownership is you can do what you like to make it your own. Just because someone chooses one color and you prefer another does not make their choice wrong. Who cares. Deal with it. Stay in your lane.

lol, so if you dont own it you cant feel a way about it. ok man, interesting opinion, but its yours so have it. Id be driving a 70 troopy right now if I wasnt lucky enough to have gotten what i did. and I can assure you it would be a pre 2017 front end with 1hz in it. I literally stumbled onto this old thread out of curiousity in case I ever needed to drive a post 2017 troopy and wanted to give it its rightful face. never in a million years would I expect anyone to want to add the crappier front end to a car that already had the face of a king. I have no nostalgic attachment to a 40, and no "oldschool" preference. I purely appreciate utility and what is truly good. The 40 body is far superior to the 70 body. its bigger, has more cargo space, 1000 times better for customization, 1000 times better for maintaining as 90% of it is 90 degree angles that can be cut and weld fixed by an idiot. that or you can literally un bolt most parts of the body and just replace them entirely. and no compromises in utility and function for the sake of styling. to each there own. but facts are facts.

no, no it isnt. maybe if blue literally was a worse colour in the sense that it faded faster then red, and attracted bugs, scratches easier... so yeah, then red would be better. and since were talking about a car, and not a dress, then yes, the OG front end is better. function aside, and pure opinion and taste at the forefront, the two newer front ends look like every other pick up front end for the last 15 years. its not special, its not anything. it is unremarkable in every way. on top of that the front end in question is actually an updated 60 series front end slapped on a 70 body that is unchanged since 85. Maybe if your not a purest then you dont care, but I personally dont like the idea of throwing a piece of the family edition styling into the heavy duty line. lol, not gonna lay down on this :) stay in your lane man, got a forum for ya right here : Angry Eyes Headlight Cover Installation - https://www.wranglerforum.com/threads/angry-eyes-headlight-cover-installation.1272105/

lol, yeah, so go back to not typing in this thread. not sure if you noticed any of the ;) faces to instil a sense of light heartedness into my heavy handed opinions. everyone here just got offended like a bunch of kindergarteners that had there favourite super hero clowned on. if anyone needs to chill, its everyone that responded to my post hahahaha. be a man, read something you dont like and leave it. be better then me.
