makes sense, when idiots are put behind the wheel, you need 5 star rated safety installed.
couple that with the rash of parts discontinuity (did you know that even though toyota is selling the 1HZ in their trucks, you can not buy a brand new 1HZ from Toyota - part # discontinued).
Toyota has become a company that will be offering what they WANT you to buy and not what YOU want.

sorry, that is the reality the big 4 is pushing on the people.

Makes me depressed about what the world is coming too

Well it is a minimum of 5 years and they do say that it will continue as long as there are buyers. They could drag it out for another 10 years yet.

Other sad news is that the next generation Defenders and Patrols will be IFS,leaving only the Gwagon ,Jeep and Landcruiser with solid front axle

but going by the as long as there are buyers they'll continue would probably mean it'll go on forever... Well at least it should anyway.

Yeah that was the other crap bit of realisation. So with the land cruiser on the way out that leaves the Gwagon and Jeep. I always wrote jeeps off (90s+ ones anyway) as being not up to it. How does the Gwagon stack up? They are wagon only though right? So we are staring down the barrel of a world with no solid front axle utes... Way to go car manufacturers

Yes we are staring down the barrel at a world of IFS. Only the diehards who hang on to their old tractors will have a solid axle.
Gwagons are supposed to be good, but not cheap being a Merc. The ones the Aust defence forces are buying start at around $100000 each for the basic 4/5 seater

ive got another 35 years left on this planet. the 40 series are still around even though they suffer from terrible rust. the 70's dont, so by that logic theryll be around long after im gone, so im thinking, why worry :)

Don't worry Toyota will continue to produce the 12-14 mpg Tundra and the behemoth Land Cruiser. :)

Australia don't get the massive tundra we only get hilux, fj cruiser, 200 series and prado once the 70's stop getting made which is quite depressing

"Australia don't get the massive Tundra". ....... You aren't missing much.:)

Stop Press! I saw a Tundra recently. I think.

Big fxxx off yank dual-cab thing with Toyota badges? Not quite as big a Silverado. Kinda like a Hilux but about a 1/4 bigger?

You can import the tundra I have a mate who's family owns one but it ends up costing an arm an three legs to get them here but yeah I've seen a couple too

Self serving orgs like the CCMTA made up of insurance companies, ex CEO's of influential corps, and government agencies which create rules and regs are responsible for safety implementation of airbags, side impact beams and bags, hoods that collapse, and other safety stuff that raises the cost of cars, which puts more money in the hands of corps, which will eventually lead to what they really want - you driving a new car every 5-7 years.

I don't buy the emissions arguments, the EPA is influenced by corps, the economy requirements in north america haven't changed since 1973, more v8's are probably produced now than ever. This is all crap.

Toyota could still put a gasser engine in the 70 series for australia like they do in the arab regions.

The EPA, FDA, DOT, FTC, IRS and all of those other "three letter" groups are only here to help. ( says so on their web sites ) :D

here is my issue with the reason for the discontinuing the 70 series ...
you seriously beleive that Toyota can make a minitruck class5 and yet can not make the 70 that way?
total and complete BS.
they know the 70 is rugged and reliable, they want s*** trucks so peeps HAVE to buy new every 10 years.
