This is my intro to IH8MUD (I have to get it out of the way immediately, that I LOVE mud, always have)
My surrogate red green uncle died a while back, when I was out of town. I've since revisited his shop to see how things developed with an old 70 I gave him (10/15 yrs ago?). Looks like he acquired a 60 too, everything up on blocks in his giant shop. I was the last one to run the 70, a beach and logging road bomber for me, did a province long and wide trip, some northern tours...changed the oil, swapped glow plugs, maintained fuel filter, washed underneath after the beach by going through big puddles, and eventually the body went and the electrical was fritzing and I went traveling.
I gave him the truck so he could use the motor for a boat project he had going. (he made outboards with old lawnmowers and stuff too...quite the talent). Turns out he was impressed with the rig, and started ripping it apart, chopping it, and buying other parts for it.
The 60 appears to have some recent body work efforts and stuff, but is rotten like you would think of coming from Prince George then bombing the beaches here. The body and interior are pretty sweet, and the engine has 296809km, so at first I was thinking of getting that one on the road...
The 70 is sentimental. The engine is at 410084km, I probably put some 100000 on that one...no major work done to it during that time...it was purrrfect. Looks like uncle was putting good effort in building this - the pictures will tell the story.
THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOU
there are many stories in the following photos...of course the obvious images, but what was left mid-progress, the materials and parts he had handy, I don't really know what direction he was moving. If you like looking at photos, and if it gives you ideas, please share them...I am looking for idea machines and people to gather the clues. I took about 80 photos today, but our internet is being shoddy this day, I'll keep posting if you keep looking!
So, right now, I am partial to figuring out what it will take to make a sweet Haida Gwaii rig...thanks for having me and thanks for looking...upload post to follow.
Thanks a bunch, spud
