For replacing the bushings, yes. The large one is pretty easy to do while everything is on the truck and will likely tighten up the overall steering. I had the smaller ones done when I put in a new rack. From what I could tell, not really serviceable while rack is on the truck.

Whats the easiest way to get a CB radio going for this trip? I'm not 100% on how I want to mount the antenna so I don't want to spend a bunch of money on the labrak or gamiviti mount just yet.

Any ideas? should I just slap a magnetic antenna on my roof and buy the Cobra 75wxst?

So, I bought this kit for my CB. I wanted something inexpensive and removable. These guys were about the same as Amazon, but the shipping is really fast. They've been great to deal with so far. Ordered and shipped the same day. I ordered on Tuesday and it will be here tomorrow.

I did the large and small with the rack in place on my '99. Not a lot of fun but can be done, I think I tried to explain it in one of the rack bushing threads.

IH8Uguys- really bummed to be missing it this year instead of helping you guys out like I should be, have a blast everyone and enjoy great dry weather!

I know my girls are bummed you guys wont be there......

I'm almost all geared up for the trip now. My ironman recovery kit showed up from metaltech, looks great and hope I won't need it. My hi-lift and accessories showed up from 4wp missing the hardware for the mount, hi-lift is sending a hardware kit. Just got shipping confirmation on my co2 kit to arrive the 20th.

They won't work for me. I have an LX with the integrated fob/key.

All the LXs and LCs have the integrated keys. When they inevitably crack and break some folks want to have a separate key fob shell for the remote and use the non-remote keys.

Now it's my turn for ignorance! What's your CO2 kit? Fire extinguisher? Tire inflator/powertank thing?

I bought a co2 kit that's similar to power tank. A website, instantairsupply.com had a 20% off sale over the 4th of July so I jumped on it.

I think for my situation it's a better solution than a compressor for on board air.

I like beefy ;)

Overkill for this group ride? Probably. But I also spend a lot of time in the desert with lots of open space. We'll see how it works out in the long term.

Okay cool! I was more concerned there might be a reason you needed that powerful of an antenna and the one I bought (300W) wouldn't work. I'll probably get a better antenna when I hard mount one down the road.

Nice! that's essentially what I bought. I got a cobra radio that and a 300w antenna. I figured I'd spend a bit more to get the radio I wanted then later down the road, I can get a better antenna. I'm hoping I can get by without tuning it though.

I run that same K30. It works well and is barely noticeable. Here is one on my old 100 at HIH3

Time flies...stumbled upon some pics of HIH 1 back in 2011...no issue trail congestion that year....this thing has taken off, thanks guys!!

I'm telling you...this event and the overall area can change the way you look at lots of things. When I saw pics of HIH1 and HIH2 on mud I was hooked...knew i had to get up there. Attended HIH3 the next year, and that set the hook deep. Currently my favorite week of the year.

Sweet! Thanks guys! I'm CB illiterate. I was recently informed HAM radio is a thing. I did about 5 min of research on it and got frustrated and promptly x'ed out the webpage.
I finally got through it with a total lack of effort. The Technician book and an iPAD app of the test questions and you could be ready in a month just spending a couple hours a day reviewing.

Agreed, its a must do event every year.

Dear Eight Pound, Six Ounce, Newborn Baby Jesus, in your golden, fleece diapers, with your curled-up, fat, balled-up little fists pawin' at the air...please give us dry weather for HIH6
Plastic pants, large cheap tarp, you will get through it. Plus it keeps the dust down. IH8DUST

I can toss an SWR meter along for anyone that wants or needs to tune their antenna. We stay close enough on trail it shouldn't be a problem.
