I received a nice message from the Silverton Chamber of Commerce today. They just held their monthly board meeting and all the business owners wanted us to know how appreciative and excited they are to have us in town. The more @bluecruiser talk about this, we realize how great it will be to move into town, but still be able to host a true camping event. Plus, we're walking distance from anything that we may need.

HIH6 is just the beginning in Silverton. We're losing a little bit of the "outlaw" feel by not roughing it as much as we used to, but this new location is going to be amazing. Next year and beyond will be even better.

Special thanks to those of you that have braved the conditions of Ironton in previous years. HIH will probably never be that small and intimate again. There's even a good chance that you won't know most of the people anymore. It used to be small enough that we could all sit around the same small campfire.

HIH is the culmination of months of planning. If there's one thing that you do, please meet new folks. Make a new connection. Put a face and a proper name to a forum name and avitar. Every one of us has been in the same thread. Walk around from camp to camp and shake hands, share laughs and make new friends. That's the whole idea behind what we're doing. If everyone can do that, the HIH roots that were planted years ago will continue to grow. Maybe we can keep the same vibe from our days in Ironton. Chris and I just do the planning and legwork. The vendors and sponsors provide the raffle prizes. Colorado provides the beauty. The HIH participants are what make this event what it is. Otherwise, it's just Chris and I camping again. We do that like 20 times per year. Seeing the camp area fill with 100's is an amazing sight. Your arm will get tired from waving at all the 100s you'll pass on the road. Get into it. It's summertime in Colorado. In just over 30 days, you'll be sleeping at 9,000 feet and driving your 100 over 13,000 feet amongst some of the most majestic mountains in the entire world. Snowpack was at almost 200% this year! The flowers are going to be amazing. The views are going to change your life.

Weather-wise, last year was the worst year we've ever had at HIH. It rained almost nonstop. There were times when the rain fell so hard you couldn't see 50 feet. Even with that, the potluck night was amazing. Instead of having one huge area with all the food, everyone made their food at their vehicles under awnings, tarps, ez-ups, tailgates or just out in the rain. We just walked around with a fork and a plate or bowl and sampled food from 40 stations. It ended up being the best part of the event. Drinks were shared, food was offered and new friends were made. That's 100s in the Hills.

The countdown has officially begun. See you in Silverton.

HOODIES!

We're doing them. First time ever...... a HIH hooded sweatshirt. They are high quality and true to size. Color will be Charcoal Heather. Just finalized this year's shirt design and it's awesome.

We had interest for about 40 hoodies, but can get a little better price by having 50+. They will be $40. It's going to be chilly at night, a HIH hoodie will be just what you need!

If you'd like one, please email Chris at chris@100sinthehills.com with your quantity and size requests. This has to happen fast and once the shirt order goes in, we will not be able to get additional shirts or hoodies. Once you place your order, Chris will send invoices in a few days

For the first time ever, we're releasing the shirt design prior to the event. Sackwear does such an amazing job creating these shirts that we're proud to release it a little early. Here you go....... HIH6 shirts and hoodies. Get them before they're gone. I'll be placing the final order at the end of the week.

Not to be super confusing but even if you already said you wanted a hoodie and selected a size, please email me with what you want. This is a last minute decision and we appreciate your orders and timeliness.

thx
chris

What is everyone planning to bring for the Friday night Pot-Luck? I am thinking either a smoked pork shoulder with some homemade BBQ sauce, which has been a been hit in the past or maybe grilled pork tenderloins..or...??? Home made stuff is gobbled up way before the "deli-trays" or store bought options, just as a note from years past...so bring a local or signature dish that you would love to share! What is everyone thinking?

Something else to mention.....

If you've never had your 100 at altitude before, there's a very good chance you're going to see fuel vapor pouring from your gas cap. Your 100 may spit out a bad code and trigger the CEL (and the xmas tree of lights). The pressure that builds in the fuel system from being hot and at altitude may cause a bubbling sound from your gas cap. It will also stink and you can even see the vapor turning back into liquid as it's escaping from your cap. Your charcoal canister is overwhelmed trying to keep up. Try not to overfill your fuel tank on the way out here, and especially while you're here. Except for the Alpine Loop, you will never need a full tank of fuel before hitting a trail. 3/4 full is fine. At the very least, do not give that extra splash of fuel at the gas station after the pump shuts off.

Please do not grab the gas cap and just spin it open. You may get the gas face. You can vent the fuel from the cap by slowly opening it and allowing the vapor to slowly vent out. If it's really bad, this may take a little while. If you've tripped a code, let your trail leader know. If you have a scanner and can clear the code, that's great too. If not, shut the truck off and disconnect the negative battery cable for 15+ minutes and the computer should reset.

Things sometimes break on the trail. Especially if you do not take your 100 off the pavement very often. You'll find things that were worn out that you didn't know. No big deal. There will be someone who can diagnose and help. We will never leave anyone behind and some of our attending sponsors are the biggest names in the Land Cruiser community. A breakdown far from home and high on a trail can be nerve wracking for your passengers. We want everyone to be comfortable and relaxed, so don't freak out. Let your trail leader know right away if you suspect an issue. Do not continue driving if there is an issue. Do not feel embarrassed if it's something that could have been fixed before the trip or if you don't know how to fix it. Safety on these trails is always priority number 1. We can get it fixed or buttoned up.

That's the best part of this event. It's a learning experience for all of us. I learn something new every year. If you've never pulled your 100 into 4lo, that's ok too. Your trail leader will help. If you've never run your lockers before, let us know and we'll show you how everything works. I've mentioned this before, but there are no egos here. It's all about furthering this community and enjoying the 100 Series Land Cruiser. If you come all the way to HIH and don't leave with a better knowledge of your 100 and your ability to responsibly drive it off road, then we've failed as an event. If you'd rather not have anyone else know that you need a hand, come see Chris and I. If we can't help, we'll know who can.

@paflytyer - Is there a mailing list one can sign up on? I can't join this year and waiting list doesn't make sense, but I'd love to get on your email list if you have one so I can be in the loop for 2017.

Follow us on FB or on the HIH website. That info is listed in the 1st post of this thread. We do not have a mailing list function. Not enough people on the payroll....;)

Thanks @bluecruiser ! I just liked/followed your facebook page this afternoon, so hope to get my updates from there. I'm new to the 100 series club (purchased last weekend) and intend to join y'all next year. Given how quickly the event appears to have sold out this year, I want to make sure I'm in the loop for next year!
