I received a nice message from the Silverton Chamber of Commerce today. They just held their monthly board meeting and all the business owners wanted us to know how appreciative and excited they are to have us in town. The more @bluecruiser talk about this, we realize how great it will be to move into town, but still be able to host a true camping event. Plus, we're walking distance from anything that we may need.
HIH6 is just the beginning in Silverton. We're losing a little bit of the "outlaw" feel by not roughing it as much as we used to, but this new location is going to be amazing. Next year and beyond will be even better.
Special thanks to those of you that have braved the conditions of Ironton in previous years. HIH will probably never be that small and intimate again. There's even a good chance that you won't know most of the people anymore. It used to be small enough that we could all sit around the same small campfire.
HIH is the culmination of months of planning. If there's one thing that you do, please meet new folks. Make a new connection. Put a face and a proper name to a forum name and avitar. Every one of us has been in the same thread. Walk around from camp to camp and shake hands, share laughs and make new friends. That's the whole idea behind what we're doing. If everyone can do that, the HIH roots that were planted years ago will continue to grow. Maybe we can keep the same vibe from our days in Ironton. Chris and I just do the planning and legwork. The vendors and sponsors provide the raffle prizes. Colorado provides the beauty. The HIH participants are what make this event what it is. Otherwise, it's just Chris and I camping again. We do that like 20 times per year. Seeing the camp area fill with 100's is an amazing sight. Your arm will get tired from waving at all the 100s you'll pass on the road. Get into it. It's summertime in Colorado. In just over 30 days, you'll be sleeping at 9,000 feet and driving your 100 over 13,000 feet amongst some of the most majestic mountains in the entire world. Snowpack was at almost 200% this year! The flowers are going to be amazing. The views are going to change your life.
Weather-wise, last year was the worst year we've ever had at HIH. It rained almost nonstop. There were times when the rain fell so hard you couldn't see 50 feet. Even with that, the potluck night was amazing. Instead of having one huge area with all the food, everyone made their food at their vehicles under awnings, tarps, ez-ups, tailgates or just out in the rain. We just walked around with a fork and a plate or bowl and sampled food from 40 stations. It ended up being the best part of the event. Drinks were shared, food was offered and new friends were made. That's 100s in the Hills.
The countdown has officially begun. See you in Silverton.
