Today when trying to start my 68 FJ40 the ignition rotated freely [like an earlier post I saw]. My metal steering column has a hole under where the barrel sits but no obvious pin to push in to release. Do I need to take the entire column cover off or am I missing some key piece here?

when rotated to acc IIRC the pin can be pushed and cyl. will come out.

I now realize this column is a GM, but I can't tell what year it is. It doesn't have the traditional barrel bolt that holds in the ignition switch. If I need to replace this, anyone have a good suggestion of replacement GM year to track down?

There is a pin hole on the column under or behind the key cyl. There is a spring loaded tab that keeps cyl. in, the tab is only accessible in 1 position and its not the off/park position, push a wire in there and try different positions, once depressed the key cyl will pull out.
