So my beast has a strange issue I cant hunt down. When it is hot out and the truck has been running a long while at slow speed or parked it will eventually start to fluctuate idle going up and down then it dies. It will start right back up but will die again. It will continue to do this until it sets for a while and cools down. The check engine light will com on somtimes but leave no code in the system. The cooling fan works fine when the motor is shut off. I dont know if it comes on when running as I cant hear it and when this happens the fan cuts on as soon as the key is turned off. Almost all the EFI crap is new including the pump and filter.

It seems like a fuel vaporizing issue. The only thing I have not replaced is the fuel pressure regulator. Any suggesstions?

Replace the fuel regulator. Had to beat Yooper to it.

I agree and it is about the only thing I have not replaced but I thought yooper had a different problem involving hot restarts

I remember yooper experiencing a plethora of petroleum pressure problems. Pressure regulator replacement proved proper procedure.
Tards rule!

I had a vac leak at the egr. It acted like what you described. I waited till it was warm and then sprayed carb cleaner around the intake. There was no gasket left for the egr. I used black RTV and created my own.

I remember it doing this at the Georgia ride. It acted just like my p.o.s. carbed heep when I would drive it hard. I would suggest you quit driving it so hard. :flipoff2:

About how much does a FPR run?

I drink High Life and PBR for that very reason. . Only three more hours till I start living the High life. :)

Damned college kids have run the price of PBR up here. :) Not too much though!

TJK

I brought a 6 pk of PBR when I went backpacking last weekend. Everyone thought I was a moron for bringing beer....until after hiking for 3 hours I threw em in the river for an hour and cracked one open...;-) Best beer I've ever had

I'm glad this is David's thread being hijacked, in that he set us up with 17 free cases of PBR at GSMTR this year. :)

TJK

Enjoying the Champagne of beers right now. Left over from the valve adjustment party last night. I do love a good beer, especially in the aftenoon... or evening... or night... or morning.....

FPR should fix it, kingTard.

GT

PBR - FPR. Whatever, they both work/will work for David.

And to add what Todd says about Greg: Greg has beautiful eyelashes!

Not sure how I came to this thread so late, (well I have been a little preoccupied today - TJK knows why, and I think I told the tardmaster as well) but what a great thread - hints at my eternal genius, and a beer discussion with TJK and GT!

FWIW, replacing the FPR solved my hot start issues, smelly exhaust, rough idle, bad mpg. And the same issues in about three or four friends' trucks to date.
