62 as a DD?

Will you sister need to parallel park, or otherwise maneuver her vehicle in tight areas? If so, she may not feel comfortable with a 62 because of their size. Other than that, 62's are quite user friendly. As others have mentioned, however, they don't make much sense as a DD that sees many miles in a commute because of the bad gas mileage. You could find a nice Corolla for 5K!

I

1. Front birf/axle seals ect.
2. baseline all fluids
3. new belts, plugs, wires
4. rear axle bearing repack and oil
5. ????

Engine compression and oil consumption would be my proirity area, noting is more expensive than and engine rebuild..... also check the tranny for hard shifts and slipping

that said I have been DD and wheeling my 62 for 2years now and about 15k, it has made several 500+ mile trips with no problems........ and I love it!!

not to mention cruiser chicks rock

Do you care if it's rusty? I'm gonna sell mine this year. It has a fresh front axle rebuild and is fully tuned and mechanically excellent. It's just rusty...

Another FZJ80 convert?

My 62 was my dads DD for about 10 years, and now its mine. I love driving it, whether its ten minutes or a 900+ mile NY run its always great. It would be a shame to see a nice cruiser ground into the ground by someone who doesnt care about her vehicle, but she would have to work pretty hard to break a 62 as long as its got all its vital fluids intact.:flamingo:?

I've been DD mine since '95. I can deal with it but, to be honest, I don't know too many women that would enjoy it. Sometimes it is hard to understand the female perspective. For example, my wife doesn't care about cars. They get you from A to B, they better not break down, and they should get decent gas mileage. I simply don't understand the logic in that. My Cruiser is a member of the family. Yes, sometimes I hate it and yell at it, but at the end of the day, all is forgiven.

Biggest question is, is this girl the type that would dig a Cruiser, or would she just end up complaining about the gas mileage and bad ride quality? You drive a 60 or 62 back to back with any vehicle made in the last 10 years and it will feel like riding on bricks. I don't drive mine for the ride quality or to save the environment. If she loves it she would be one of the few.

She really needs one in the next couple of weeks.

my 60 is a dd. isnt everyones?

I just bought my 62 Wensday for my DD. I have been in a work van for 5 years. No more crappy vans.

My wife was againt the 62 till she saw it and rode in it. I say take her to look at one and see if she digs it. That will make the decision easy.

i thought an audi Quattro would be a good DD for my wife until i got one. Cruisers are cheap when you compare them to that finely tuned german crap. I loved the car and its handling, but it only got 14-19 mpg.And the repairs, oh my, that hurt.
When I brought a rusty 1500$ fj60 home and said what do you think, she about whooped me, wouldn't drive it until she had to , now she doesn't mind it just wishes it wasn't rusty. The clutch is easy drives like a caronly a little more bouncey. I drive it all the time, up the canyon to climb or runnig to the store. My son loves it. He would much rather ride in it than my 03 chevy x-cab.
BUT...... I average 7.5 MPG.
The biggest factor for me in owning it. They look damn cool looking down on them parked at the bottom of an Ice fall you just climbed.
Gas prices are tough, but if you love the ride it's worth it.

I appreciate all the help here, but i am regretful to inform we found her a 2000 nissan altima with 120,000 miles for $5,000 today. I did a compression check, looked it over and no leaks anywhere and the compression was perfect. Also it had new front CVs. Car was a one owner, garage kept and well maintained. I told her to go for it, and she did. So, no FJ62 for her :(

About a year ago I sold my Jetta for a 62' and it was the best decision I ever made! Tell your sister to go for it, she'll love it. It was a shocker the first time that I went to the gas pump have to admit, but it's worth it. I wouldn't buy a compact car ever again!!

In that you never mentioned that she new a thing about automobils, I would think you/she made a wise decision. Yeah it'd be cool if you coulda bought it yourself later, but not cool to be working on it if you do not have the time or extra $$. Yes buying $3-8K fj over a $20-29k new rig would leave a lot of money left over for insurance and gas. But in that your buget dictated a less expensive rig anyway..the gas pump would have equalled a new car payment per month. (get a new less expensive (suzuki, bottom line toyo, chev, ford) gas miser you would still not spend much more than the fuel and upkeep on a fj. if you are putting some miles on it)

Piss off some of my fellow mudders, yeah, but hey ya gotta call em like ya see em...
