Here in my part of the world, it's common for shops to say they won't touch a system that's been knowingly charged with certain "oddball" refrigerants. The oddball gases will contaminate their recovery equipment (and the expensive refrigerants already in the recovery tanks) Therefore, know that charging with HC means forever servicing your own vehicles, unless you luck out and find a willing shop that's also competent. Again, that's how it goes in these parts, this could be a total non-issue for you.

Verify what you'll need to do to prep the system for the HyChill (flush procedure and perhaps a different oil compatible with HC for example)

Agree with Wile.^^^ If you're going to use a HC refrigerant, be aware that in 19 states in the US, it's illegal to introduce a HC refrigerant into a mobile A/C system. Also worth noting is that HC's can degrade the seal material in the system. I've been able to find R12 on craigslist for fairly reasonable prices.

Op why don't you just pop into an aircon place, they'll tell you in 5 minutes if it's empty, I've never been charged for asking them to test the system

in aus the price of getting the system charged with r134a is currently around the $300 $400 mark, and to buy it you need to be licensed . its a load of shlt

I can get a can of this tried and tested gas for about $40 without a license, so all I need to know is how much pressure I should be running it at
