Just got ready to install a rebuilt head purchased from SOR and noticed the casting around the manifold surface is slightly different from my old head. The differences are all related to additional bolt holes (all appear to be blind) or areas where the casting has been beefed up to allow the holes to be bored in the first place. These are not aftermarket changes as the casting itself is slightly modified. All the standard holes are the same on both heads, and the standard SOR manifold gasket fits this head just as it should, other than a few of the added holes are not covered. To reiterate, both heads are 61040 castings shown on the head surface, and the exhaust and intake ports are identical, as are the valves, chamber, and top surface ports for oil and water jacket, bolt holes and rocker assembly. Never heard of a 61040 variant before, and want to make sure about this before I do the installation. SOR is closed or I'd already have an answer. Will post some pics as soon as I can.
Any light that you can shed on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks.
