Can anyone who has done it recently let me know what they paid?

Novus, $200ish

I am going to have to call around.. Found that with the wet weather whatever shop did the windshield replacement before I bought the truck did a bad job because I am getting water pooling on the gasket on the INSIDE of the windshield in the bottom left corner by the drivers door. Hence why my floor has been wet.

I had mine replaced with Toyota glass, cost was ~$1050 including new Toyota gasket.

I gotta ask why you would go with Toyota glass???

Did you actually pay that out of pocket, or was it paid by insurance??

218 and no leaks. cant say the same for my door seals though...

Talk to KevinMorland about that... or visit his site, WagonGear.com... he sells all the weatherstripping and seals.

Stone, meteor, and bullet resistant?

Seriously, having replaced my winshield too many times owing to rock damage, a tougher windshield would be a big help. Cannnot say if an OEM windshield is any better.

I'm getting the new OEM windshield as well. :) Currently, none in the US. Mine is coming out of the mothership.

There is nothing like Asahi Glass.

:)

Yes, insurance is paying for it.

Insurance paid for it of course, too much of a delta for my pocket to bear.

Personally, if I look at a used Toyota with an intention to purchase and dont see Toyota (Asahi) glass, I get detracted.

So just called around and waiting on some other quotes but most plays said would be about $220 to replace new windshield and gasket. First guy I talked with said that could be that the sealer/glue that is put between the gasket and body was not done properly and they "should" be able to get the glass out without breaking it but if it did break it would not be their fault (shady or ??) and then quoted me $75 for the hour labor to just do the reseal.. Now talking with him he said that he would not recommend PPG anymore as it was bought out by PWG which is now using cheap chinese aftermarket glass. He said he could get Pilkington if I really wanted it but he felt that FYG was just a good with the experience he has had.

All I can find is FYG is cheap sh*% glass and to stay away. So now waiting on other places to call back.

Thanks Spike, I was looking for that thread but couldn't seem to find it.
Anyways, remembered I have a buddy that does glass and he happens to do autos too. He said don't put any glue or anything in the gasket as then you would just be chasing the problem. He recommended a new gasket and he would install for $40 so I am looking at getting the Toyota OEM to have him install. and turns out that I have a PGW windshield.

Oh and forgot you recommended the Precision gasket and locking strip (which is what my buddy said he could get me if I wanted). So looks like I will be calling him back soon as I have the money for it.

Use the polyurethane sealant, or it'll prolly leak. It's in the FSM. But I guess it depends on if you're in a rainy area, or not. ...

i am fortunate to have not gone through this but i do have a comment: more often than not there will be leakage after a window replacement. it doesn't matter how much money you spend, you should just assume this will happen. west coast auto glass, located here in seattle, warranties their work for as long as you own your vehicle. i've had great success with them on other vehicles and highly recommend them. 425-967-5707.
