I've located a good 2F engine, have a 4spd Trans (i will rebuild) and might have a tip on where I can locate a 4 speed transfer case for the 60 series truck.

Anyone put one of these settups in a LV? I am curious of the amount of work it will take to get it converted over.

I will be taking all the smog crap off (california truck it came out of). I hear all you need is a non smog carb and the 2f will run decent.

Heard that there may be some rear drive shaft modification as well.

Might go pick this motor up this weekend.

That combo sure goes in a FJ45 longbed pickup well - with a mild cab lift to clear the 4 speed tranny. The '65 vacuum shifter stuff converted over nicely to a 1980 nonsplit xfer case. You will need an FJ40 style bellhousing so the motor mounts line up. You may have to fight the 'power brake booster/MC combo hits the carburetor' syndrome. I desmogged my '83 2F, leaving the PCV system and a few carb functions (choke pull off, heat riser, etc.) and it runs very well with no other carb mods. See the Jan/Feb TT for more info on my installation. The tranny tunnel on a 45 LV is an unknown to me. I did have the rear d-shaft rebuilt and made much longer. My truck had a later model crossmember welded into the frame - I'm not sure how much or if an early style crossmember will cause xfer case or d-shaft interference.

this is exactly what I have put (in process) in Whilma.
so far though the 87' 2F is in sitting on the front motor mounts, which need to be stock early fj40/5 frame mounts with fj60 motor mount isloator (you know the polyurethane thingys.) the transmission transfer case is not in yet and the back end of the engine is on a jack right now.
We pulled the whole drivline from the donor fj60 so I plan on getting the tranny /trasfer bolt back up and use the stock fj60 crossmember rasie it up and deal with bolting it to the frame.
as far as drive shafts go i am sure they will have to be shortened or lengthened but , i have been running a shorten rear drive shaft on my fj63 for a few years now with out problems so am not to worried about it most drive shaft shops can handle it and think it cost like $70 or so.
As far as smog my plan is to strip it all off send the carb and distributor to JimC to get tuned an rebuilt to run without the smog/computer. and get the parts he makes to desmog a 2F.
thats the plan anyway.

I put an '84 FJ60 drivetrain in my pick-up, as Steve says, with a 1-inch body lift, it all fit. I used the FJ60 cradle style transmission mount and just welded some 3-inch angle to the frame to mount the cross member to.

I put an '87 FJ60 motor/trans/t-case into Junk's '77 FJ45LPB with no body lift. Used the 40 series motor mount ears and cushions on the front. Used the FJ60 crossmember under the trans. Drilled some new holes up through the crossmember into the framerail and through bolted it. I used the trans cover and shift boots from the FJ60 on top of the 45 trans cover. This let me cut out the PO's mods for the NV4500 he had in there before. After sectioning a little out of the FJ60 cover and a little beating on both to get the edges to line up it looks stock. Used the FJ60 driveshafts. They would have ALMOST worked except the long slip joint on the front shaft needed to be on the rear. Ended up retubing both of them for $300. Also used the FJ60 P/S. Reconverted the front to stock disc brakes, larger birfields and large bolt pattern knuckles on the front axle. FJ60 steering stabilizer bracket and stabilizer fit like they belong with a little welding. Junkster tells me all the time how happy he is with his truck...:D
