Thanks Jonathan!
There are a few more positive things to tell, the frame went to a guy restoring a HJ61, the springs went to another guy restoring a HJ61, the only real loss was the body, but I learned to weld doing it, so if I file that under education, that's no loss either.
The only one really loosing here is my wallet, and that is inevitable when dealing with old cars
Galvanising, or hot dipping, is a process where steel parts are rinsed in an acid bath before being submerged in molten hot zinck.
I am not sure I would recommend it, it has been known to take the strength out of steel. I did however, and my 45 have had the frame done by the previous owner too.
There is another process, I think its calles spray galvanizing, where molten zinck is sprayed on the metal. Although it will not penetrate in to every crevis, it will not take any strength from the steel, you might look in to that. I cannot guide you any further, this is as far as my knowledge goes
I haven't given up on custom cruisers though, I have the HJ45, which soon will be a HJ48, it must be, because if a 2H equipped 45 is a 47, a 12HT equipped must be a 48
and I have a HJ61 cable locker for it too!
4 doors are on the wish list...
