Your welcome for the link and they do have latches just like most of the fabbed rear bumpers do they called a pull action latch and they seem to work the best for that application also the drawer slides have a 300 to 500 pound rating. Im planning on building a set of drawers for the 80 and one for my 40 as well will deff help out with storage in the 40 and the 80.

P.S Hey rusty you still have that spare fuel Tank or you dump that already ?

Dan:cheers::steer:

It's somewhere behind all my kids furniture in the storage unit.

Not seeing the "pull action latch" on there?

AYE!
Would the heavy duty deal be the one to use do you think?

Thanks for linking that Rusty!

I honestly didnt see it on there.

K

Yes Keith i would go with the heavy duty stainless steel one 1 because of strength and stainless for the corrosion resistance

I think a good rule of thumb is to figure out how strong you think something should be, then double it and hope it holds up.

I've seen these used often:
DE-STA-CO - Manual Clamps - Products

4x4labs uses the 375 model with the optional lock.

So, I got the bumper "proper" burned together today...
Nothing like the taste of weld fumes that last all night!
Spindles came on Wed.
However, Im gonna have to get it mounted before I make any commitments on spindle locations.
Again, the spindles were A toZ fabrication, and there pretty stout. Cant wait to start that part to get those together!
So tomorrow, Im gonna get the frame tie in/ tow points squared away and mount the bumper (loosely) to see how its looking.
Ill get pics tomorrow to see what you all think!
I wish weekends were 5 days and week days were 2...
Im gonna go ahead and run a hitch as you all recommended! Not sure how Im going to accomplish that, but ill figure it out some how.

The pic that SinCity4r posted looks clean assuming you have room on the back side for the pin (if you are planning to use your hitch as often as I do I'd want the pin easily accessible...but since you stated your hitch needs aren't known at this time it might be the way). This design uses the bumper itself as the reinforcement surrounding the receiver so you don't need to fab an external collar. However as you probably know you can buy the receiver portion from most hitch fab'rs like Washoe, Krow, etc.

Hey Dan,
would you happen to know how it is re enforced? (the hitch that is). If I could get away with just running the stock through the bumper proper, weld it up and be done with it, Id be a happy camper. Something tells me that it wont be that easy though.
Im planning on bracing the trailer hitch between the 1/2 in tie in plates with some gussets...My theory is that it would also serve to re enforce the whole bumper and the aft section of the frame as well.
I got delayed this AM, and couldnt work till the afternoon on the build, so all i got accomplished today was drilling the tie in plates and getting them bolted up.

Thanks for the info Dan. That makes more sense!

Keith...I'll see if the back side of my Slee is visible and take some pics for you.

Keith,
Here's a pic showing the hitch, bumper and frame. This is NOT a rated hitch...meaning Christo did not spend the $$$ to get the rating...sorta use at my own risk. I feel very comfortable towing my AT trailer which when loaded is probably ~2,000lbs. If I was going to tow a trailer that was 5,000+lbs I would want the hitch to go through the frame and anchor at an additional cross frame member/support for better support/structure.

I added the safety chain anchors...since the bumper wasn't "intended" for towing it did not come with any place to anchor the safety chains. You will want to IMO weld a couple half circle 3/8" round bar anchors somewhere where you can anchor the chains but not be exposed to dragging/bottoming out...

AYE!
Thanks for the pics Dan!
I have a similar frame support as you behind the bumper, but its gonna have to go away as it hangs lower than the bumper...
Im 99.9% certain that I will NOT be towing anything with my rig, but for some of the other reasons mentioned earlier, I figured it should be "somewhat" functional, much like yours.

I appreciate the time!

Nice. Looking forward to the final product.
