Is this a 60 or an 80? The huz and I were thinking / entertaining the idea of trading the tundra for this one, but I don't know if it can tow my 40...

Yeah, I figure, its a given that the tundra would be the best..but I like the idea of kicking it old school IF itll tow it.

I'd hesitate to tow anything with my 80, even if it wasn't lifted.

Can the engine handle it?

Yes.....at 55mph....

Stopping ain't great with no load, so can only imagine trying to control a trailer with a 4k load.

Others methods and means may vary, but the Tundra is much better suited for towing than any other (US bound) Toyota that ever rolled off the assembly line (yes. I realize it's a domestic truck, too), in my opinion.

Def a 6x series. Looks like 62. Not something youd want to you your 40 with. At least not before dropping it off with Stan for a vortec swap. You're still better suited with the tundra.

So are we to stare at your avitar for soft top updates??

Def looks like a 62 series. Those transmissions have enough issues before trying to tow with them. I would not tow anything beside my little 1/4 ton trailer behind my 62.

No, I put the soft top on the 40s tech...also posted on FB..not fond of the updated mud app..but just for you jason ;)

Strikes me as a 62. Even though I havent had any tranny problem with mine it's sooooo under powered on the highway it's not worth a tundra. It's a hobby vehicle in every aspect. A super comfy great all around drive anywhere and make it back hobby vehicle.

It's a 62. I would not trade it for a Tundra. In relation to towing, not on the stock trans for sure and the motor won't do well either. Now, put a 5.3L with a built 4L60E and you have the power of a Silverado in regard to towing.

ummm..... 62, don't trade if you are looking for a tow vehicle. The Tundra is the best tow vehicle Toyota has ever made.... only upgrade in terms of towing would be going with a 1 ton diesel.

You could upgrade the trans in the 62 for quite a bit of money or an engine and trans swap but even then wouldn't be as good in terms of towing as a tundra.

Now if you are just looking for something cheaper then by all means look on getting rid of the tundra and look at a 62.... but don't expect to do much towing with it. :)

For which I can attest that my '04 1500 Silverado was a dawg on anything other than flatlands towing my 40 on 19' trailer. Also, ask 'Ole Greg about towing a 40 with an 80 - I think that was what put the nail in the coffin on Big Red's need for a head job IIRC.
