Run the 2wd with a divorced adapter to a toybox reduction in front of a split cae and you are golden. Alows for the ofset and all the parts are available alll over choice of ratio's in the crawler box 2.28 stock, 4.0:1,4.7:1 it gets really fun there. I have a mini turbo tranny with Marlins non-US gear set 5.15 first gear backed by the ultimate with the 4.7 gears in the rear case under my FJ80RUNNER so with the stock axles it works great am running 38x16.5 claws and its so slow in double lowwwwww.

Here are the first pictures of the 6 speed. Some quick obsevations - the RA60 is considerably lighter the A442F it sits next too. It has a beefy cast clutch fork with large TO bearing. It reads "Aisin" on the side. :D

Today's trivia question. Who can tell me the significance of the second picture?

Trivia Answer: Both trannies have same output shaft configuration with respect to diameter and splines.

Yup, both are the 19 spline... I was hoping for a 19 spline output, can't believe it actually has one.

The extension housing will be lost, and a custom adapter put in it's place. The Tacoma 4WD piece will not bolt up to the Cruiser case.

But will it bolt up to a marlin toybox?

MYTTOY, I doubt it will bolt up to much w/o something custom machined. BTW, thanks for sugesting the divorced case, if there was more room, I would definetly consider that route. My vehicle previous to the 93 FZJ was an 86 4-Runner Turbo with an FZJ front axle/suspension, dual cases, etc etc... similar to your set-up, makes for great and very stable machine!

More gathered info...

The clutch is 275mm in diameter, aka Land Cruiser sized.

The tranny is almost paltry in the weight department, a whopping 130lbs with gear lube.

This tranny apparently uses NO pilot bearing... very strange, but good from an adapting standpoint.

The starter ring gear on the flywheel is a smaller diameter than the FZJ80 auto unit. The RA60 bellhousing has an accordingly smaller inside diameter....

That leads to the largest problem with adapting this transmission. The bellhousing/front case/bearing retainers (including the piece that the TO bearing slides on) are all one cast aluminum alloy piece. In order to remove it, the whole transmission must be completely disassembled from the back to the front. This may be better off in the hardcore section.

Hey ! Ifthe outside diameter of the new tranny is really alot smaller then you could geta crusier bell housing and cut it placing it over the new bell housing the amount that you need as far as distance from the engine then weld it and then you have all of the stock inards and the correct bolt pattern for the engine. Just an idea......

That may be... probaby will be, what happens... though it would be nice to pull the front housing, machine up a billet piece to replace it, then a variety of bellhousings could be easily adapted.
