6 Lug Dana 60 Questions

To the folks that have 6 lug Dana 60 Fronts, How did you go about doing them?
I know about the kits(Dynatrac, Solid Axle,etc). They seem very nice but spendy as well! ( yes I am cheap!). I also know you can turn down the the stock hubs and redrill them to 6 lug. I read over on pirate in the 60 bible that you can use chevy dana 44 6lug spindles on the dana 60 knuckles with a adaptor which would also work as the caliper bracket. You would be limited to using only the 30 spline outers because the 35 spline won't fit through the dana 44 spindle. Dana 44's are pretty plentiful and the best part are inexpensive. Has anybody gone this route??

Contact Doug Brown at extremeaxlesales.com, they are on the east coast and he used to go by highonda on this board. Prices are very reasonable. Get the caliper brackets, and 6 lug hubs. Go to parts house get rotor and calipers for 86 k5 blazer front. Get brake lines for same. Get 2 3/16 brake nuts. Buy the spare brake hard line at parts house that comes in different lengths and it comes with the nuts on it. Thats it, poor mans kit. I had to replace the brake hard lines but that was easy and you have to swith to the sae fittings anyhow. The holes in the 6 lug hubs will want 9/16 studs and you have to get the studs that are made for pinning the rotor onto back of hub. So get the studs from doug as well or be sure to get them and lug nuts. The 9/16 will fit your rims just barely without modifications. I found them at Napa and they are available at napaonline, I'll pm you a part # for the studs if I find it. I have seen the brake rotor done as a hat style as well. If you wanna go that route it requires a different caliper bracket that is offset 1/4 " and you use a fzj80 rear rotor.

So this retains the stock spindles, which then I could run 35 spline stubs? I like! Do you think this is the more economical route? They do offer the hub and bracket kit for $900.

I think it is. If you get Doug on the phone you'll be sold. I know others out here that buy from him for 10 years now. He sells the hubs, caliper brackets and lug studs and that is the lightest weight for shipping. The other stuff get local. IIRC the rotors have to have the hole opened up a little, it is like a .5" larger diameter I think. I went this route. Knorr bros. went similar but got hubs from chevy dealer IIRC. I do think Doug at extremeaxles has best price and service. However when it comes to the rear axle I liked solid axles kit to go to 6 lug and do an offset diff for the cruiser at same time.

I wanted to verify that a Solid Industries Hub(6x5.5) with 9/16" wheel studs will fit a Toy Wheel?

I am looking to buy a 60 that has already been converted, but don't want to buy new wheels to fit the hub....

I put my rims on them. The fit is tight but tire goes on and off easily. I would say it would depend on the rim, the metric lugs are enough smaller that there could be some rims where you would have to open the holes up a slight amount, nothing to worry about.
