Hi all thinking bout replaceing my 1fzfe with a supercharged 6.5l chev diesel in the near future is there any pros n cons or probs I mite hav? cheers!!

that should be a turbocharged 6.5, not a supercharged. Search on here, there have been a few that did this swap already.

I had a 1500 with the 6.5 TD. The motor is a dog. A good comparison would be the 3fe/1fz and the 6.5TD/powerstroke. Just not a proper diesel motor.

But the pros are it seems to be cheaper then some of the other options out there. If I was investing money into a diesel it would have to be a cummins, only since I could never afford a toyota diesel.

How can you say it's not a proper diesel motor? The old 350 liability diesel, yeah. There are tons of these out there that can be bought cheaply. Our military has trusted these (including the 6.2) for about 20 years.

BLAHAHAHAHA so cause OUR military trusted the motor makes them good??

I put 25k miles on the truck. I also have a 95 Ford Ambulance(aka the Jamulance for my DJ company) with the 7.3. I have towed with both trucks. The Ambulance weighting 2x a much gets better gas mileage, tows better, better accel, its much more lively engine. Granted with the towing is also the difference betwen SRW and DRW. I would take gas motor any day over the 6.5 and I am a diesel fanatic. I bought the truck because of the coolness factor having a diesel in a 1500 frame. I was upset everyday after that for not getting a powerstroke or cummins.

Im just saying there are better options out there but if you have to settle and cheapness is a factor then it is what it is.

So wat ur saying chevy aint good ? And no its supercharged they hav both check out bullet engines I belive they are one of the best ay

I thought there were some issues with proper fitting of 6.5L diesel into FZJ80 - reading the thread above (listed by yooper) the author only brushes on the fact that he had to 'eliminate' the Shock Tower... Is that something you can do without?! ...:D Someone please elaborate as I am leaning towards 6.2L (instead of 6.5L) for that very reason.

I didn't say they were good, just proper. The International 7.3 is a much nicer engine in many regards. I would agree. But as for cost, availability, and parts availability, the 6.5s are tough to beat. That 1500 frame was a 2500 frame anyways :)

Not down under, they have many aftermarket companies that make roots type SC for that engine.

Have a few at work..... they can move around a heavy 3500HD frame with a hydraulic lift gate, crew cab, compressor, cage body, tools and mounted tractor trailer tires so you will never hear me call it a dog..... but then again that one has a NV4500 behind it.

Also have a 2500 crew cab (juet a regular truck) with the auto and this engine and it is one of the smoothest running diesels we have here......

for the chevy 6.5 diesel ?

Actually the 6.5 came with a blower in marine applications here in the states. The 6.5 is a pretty nice motor if you keep in mind it is a light duty engine designed to go in a 1/2 ton pickup.

So wats this cummins ? Wel i dnt no about fitting but if u look on ther website at ther vids they hav the supercharged one in an 80 so I dnt no but thanks fellas for all da info sofar
