i have a 2003 100 series. I want to pick up a new wood stove. Thing is a beast, it wieghs 475 lbs itself. Can i put this in the trunk of the 100 series? what is the weight capacity of the 100 series trunk?

It'll probably sag a little but you should be OK. Its rated to tow, what, 5,000lbs? At a tongue weight of 500lbs (10%) you're well within that...and you'll have your stove weight more or less over the rear wheels too...

I'd be careful of the tailgate...but on the OTOH I along with another lard ass, for probably a combined 400 elbees plus didn't have any problems with it :D

Just was thinking it is all in the back
I was thinkin that the guy on the inside helpin place that load may need an apointment for some lumbar therapy when your done!!:bang:

I use my tailgate to stand on when loading my roof box. Standing up with 320+ cargo and never felt uneasy. As long as your cables are in good shape, it should hold just fine (for a temporary load while loading). I had a frayed and rusted cable snap on my Tacoma tailgate when loading a washing machine(I kind of knew it was coming). Surprisingly, the other cable held most of the load.

We had nearly 800lbs of floor tile in the trunk of our 04. Other than riding low in the rear it was fine for the 5 mile drive home. We folded the middle seats up to try and get the weight as far forward as possible.

I dont think we even hit the bump-stops once.

I frequently carry over 1000lbs in the back of mine for work. Never had a problem...250k plus miles. I've also traveled short, slow distances with more than 300lbs on the tailgate without issue.

I carry a trunk full of beer, wine, and liquor on a weekly basis. After 1 1/2 years, I think my springs might be starting to wear, but no real problems. You should be fine for an occasional heavy load.

No problem. Had 9 x 80lb bags of concrete in the back last night. Truck was unfazed.

Wouldn't hurt to inspect your tailgate cables. I would be cautious about having the entire load of 500lb stove and two lifters 2x200lbs all on the tailgate at once.

If you could load it on a pallet to slide it in or attach lifting handles that would help things.

The 100 is the perfect vehicle to keep the revenuers at bay.

Tailgating I've had about 600 pounds worth of people sitting on my tailgate, and never even thought twice about it....

biggest problem will be getting it in and out of the cruiser. Might consider an open top trailer, they rent em at Home Depot for about $25 a day.
