Poor guy has not had it but like 3K miles and now it seems their are more than just his Toyota having this concern, about 40 or 50 others supposedly could be in same boat? It's on the 2007 Tundra Forum over on TS Forum. Cam just cracked in half upper lh i believe, as he was going down interastate truck just started loosing power and he pulled over and carnage insued!! new 5/7L Engine goes down!

doh !
How did that Ford part get into a Toyota?

That sucks. This is why I will never buy first-year production vehicles.

Latest news on cam issues is good news because i have heard none which would suggest it was a few number of faulty cams. I am sure that if it was a huge problem we would have heard a group of more unhappy people which we have not wich is a good thing for all!!:) Good things coming in next couple years but i will NEVER buy new year model due to issues the 07's are having, which aren't that many, i feel just a bunch of whinning going on which will stop after 1st cracked windshield or chipped paint or busted headlight!!:)

my 05 Taco is the first year run...

after 30 K No problems. not one.

Gumies right.Toyota is replacing the engines if the cam goes down.We so far have had none at our dealer. But if we do the 5.7 is already spoken for. These engines though will likely have to be sent back to Toyota.20 trucks so far out of how many 1000s.Other manufacturers could be so lucky.I f it were a domestic we would nevr know anyhting about it.

It is a domestic!

Well said. I get so tired of hearing about import vs. domestic. My 95 LC built in japan and my 96 taco is from California. They are both great. My company car (POS PT Cruiser) is a Chrysler (domestic?) but is built in Mexico (import!). I do agree that as the japanese cars are becoming more domesticated they are loosing their edge. In my experience it is more in the accessories (a/c, radio, etc) that seem to have the most problems. Back when everything electrical was made by denso they were better.

I read today that GM calls the HHR a domestic even though it's 64% foreign parts and assembled in Mexico because they claim they can average all their SUVs together and come up with an aggregate figure of 75% domestically produced parts.

Meanwhile my Tundra is more than 75% domestically produced so it is legally a domestic.

Canada somehow also counts as domestic, but Mexico does not.

One of the guys that I work with had his cam shaft break at 3000 miles. Totally sucked as he was on vacation in Utah and Colorado. HE was 2 hours from the nearest dealer. He said dealer was great though as they bent over backwards to make sure he got back on the road. They had to lease him truck helped him transfer all his stuff over, including 2 motorcycles and sent him on his way. Once the truck was finished they shipped the truck to him oin California and took the rental back toUtah.

As for the cam shaft, when his broke they had 20 reported failures. They tore the top end of the motor a part while he waited and once the problem was discovered they ordered a new motor. They shipped the bad motor back to Toyota for further inspection. They claim it was single manufacturer with a bad lot. Supposedly they have multiple suppliers of the part.

For Toyota to compensate for the problems they:Keep in mind my buddy told them he wanted a new truck. Toyota paid 2 months of truck payments, sent him a gift cash card, discounted the TRD exhaust system and extended his warranty. Pretty Cool.

Before he bought this truck he was a Checy Guy. When his truck broke they rented him the comparable chevy 4x4 double cab. He said the Toyota handles better, was more comfortable and had more power and the interior was much nicer.
