Southwest Adventure 2018 Details - April 28-May 2 2018
Adventure2018_01BW_Logo.webp

We are in our final stages of planning for this year's Southwest Adventure trip. We have the route planned and I think it's going to be a good one with some incredible scenery, awesome campsite and plenty of offroad travel. The route looks to cover approximately 600 miles with minimal pavement travel.

Spots are limited and it's necessary to keep the group size small to allow for good travel speeds and because of the size of some of the campsites. We anticipate a maximum of 12-15 vehicles. If you want to attend, please send a PM to me (Box Rocket) with your contact information ASAP and we will notify you if there is a spot available. Once we have a full group, this thread will be updated and announced that the trip roster is full.

Each attending vehicle should be in good mechanical condition with no major leaks. Vehicles should meet all tech requirements to participate in Cruise Moab event. If you have questions about those requirements please see details at www.Cruisemoab.com
Cruise Moab - Vehicle Requirements

COST:
No cost to attend. But you are responsible for your own travel related expenses including food, fuel, repairs, camping etc.

Required equipment:
CB or Ham radio
Frame mounted recovery points
Personal camping equipment (campsites are all in remote unimproved sites with no facilities of any kind)
Personal cooking equipment (All participants are responsible for their own meals)

Routes are generally passable by stock Land Cruisers (or similar vehicle) and locking differentials are not required.
Please note, travel on dirt roads will be somewhat fast speeds to allow for time to see various points of interest along the way and to arrive at campsites by late afternoon or early evening. Non-Slinky suspension equipped vehicles may experience shock fade from overheated shocks etc because of travel speeds. *Because of the speeds and distances covered each day we request NO TRAILERS on the trip. If you plan to attend and it's problematic to not have a trailer with you, please contact me via PM.*

Rough Itinerary (subject to change based on route or weather conditions)

Note: because of the morning meet time it may be necessary to camp or stay in a hotel in or near Price on Friday night April 27.

Saturday April 28:
Meet for Breakfast in Price, Ut, (8:30 am for breakfast. Farlaino's Café, 87 W Main St, Price, UT 84501) then hit the trail.
Visit The Wedge, Buckhorn Wash
Camp Saturday near Keg Knoll, north of Hanksville

Sunday April 29:
Leave campsite drive trail past Goblin Valley, then south past Factory Butte. Continue south on Notom Bullfrong road.
Camp on West side of Henry Mountains. It's likely we'll encounter snow on the Henry mountains so we'll save that for Monday so we have plenty of time rather than deal with stuck trucks late in the day.

Monday April 30:
Traverse Henry Mountains
head toward Valley of the Gods via Halls Crossing (if Ferry is running) or via Hite.
Camp in Valley of the Gods

Tuesday May 1:
Leave Valley of the Gods and travel north via Comb Wash road to Bears Ears.
Cross over Elk Ridge into south end of Canyonlands.
Camp at Needles Overlook.

Wednesday May 2:
Leave Needles campsite and head to Moab.
Anticipate arrival in Moab by lunchtime to allow for Cruise Moab tech inspection.

If you plan to attend and use Gaia GPS, I will have a route file that can be shared and loaded to your Apple or Android device that runs Gaia. I will also be working on getting a GPS file for other navigation devices.

T-shirts and stickers will be given to all participants.
Because of limited spots available for the trip, one lucky participant will receive "admission" via a photo contest. We will also be posting a PHOTO CONTEST to be judged by 4xOverlandUSA (Darren McRae and Kevin Brown). The winner of the photo contest will win a spot on the trip.

If you have questions, feel free to post them here and we will do our best to answer with any additional details.

Gonna watch for details. Love the idea of this but not sure I'm ready. Going to be at Cruise Moab, and this feels like an easy decision, but honestly I don't feel that comfortable with my trip planning abilities yet to do this in front. Looks awesome though!

Shouldn't have to worry about any planning on your end other than having food and clothing for a few days. We'll take care of the rest. Of course, if you have questions about how to prepare, go ahead and post up your questions and we can help you along the way. You're ready. If you don't feel like you are, we'll help you feel ready. :)

Really want to come! Not sure if it will happen by this trip, but I definitely will be a Slinky customer!
