Does anyone know the dimensions of the square tubing used for the tire carrier - width and thickness?

2"x2". Don't know what thickness they use. I used .250" on mine.

Yep, 2"x2"x1/4" thk.

I built one for my 100 from scratch (using a base 4x4 Labs bumper). I used 2x2x1/4" and a receiver hitch tube that had a 3/16" wall thickness.

Thanks Rwhat. Did you build your own tire carrier? Do you have a write-up? I searched and didn't find anything.

I built mine mostly from scratch except I bought the 2x2 that bolts the swing arm and the gussets from Labs when I bought my spindles. I didn't do a write up but mine is similar to Dave's. I used receiver hitch tubing welded to the upright and welded my tire carrier plate to a 2x2 that slides into the upright. This way you can add other stuff if you don't use the carrier and you can also get the tire nice and tight against the carrier. I also mounted my tire up alot higher.

Edit, I also copied someone's else's (Azriders IIRRC) where my leg for the carrier is 2 pieces. It bend out and then back toward the hatch so the tire follows the contour of the hatch

I got some pics however I'm using my phone right now.

IMHO the tire carrier itself doesn't need to be over 1/8 thick. If it is built and welded properly it will never budge. The 1/4 inch is adding a lot of unnecessary weight. Just my $.02

Never mind the crazy eyes. The second pic is what i sort of copied, however i didnt have it too close to the body just in case i bang in to something it doesn't flex back and hit the body.

Thanks, this is useful. I like the extra space in case there's flex.

Looks good. Make sure to weld the s*** out of the spindle inside the bumper or it will vibrate alot.

Thanks - can't tell you how many times I've taken the bumper off and put it back on. Another monkey wrench is the auxiliary tank I've had to accomodate. Will be glad to get this done and move on to other projects.

Thanks for all the help. I finished my build (at least this state) last weekend just in time for a trip this weekend. I'll post some photos when we get back.

Couple photos I took before leaving. Tire is higher than I originally planned, but I like it. Kanz Field Kitchen carrier on the left. I'm not happy with my rattle can paint job but will probably get it powder coated when I'm done with everything. I am planning on adding an integrated skid for the aux tank. I added weld in pins instead of using the provided stoppers.

That looks great! I really like the dual purpose of tire carrier and ladder. Makes getting to the rack a lot easier and has the tire up put of the way. Very good work!

Very cool. That flat rack will be handy for hauling all sorts of stuff.

I like the added pins, does it firm up the back in the closed position? I can get a rattle in mine from time to time and have considered something like this.
