Hi all! This is my first post. I’ve got a 2015 GX 460 Premium trim and have had it for about 2 years now. I’m finally getting to a point of making modifications, with the first ones being a bumper chop and running board removal. The second and much more expensive move is new wheels and tires. I want some 17” wheels and I’ve noticed it’s pretty easy to find some 4Runner 17” OEM takeoffs and I LOVE the way they look, especially with the excess chrome trim that’s everywhere on the 460.
My biggest question is regarding the Offset difference. The TRD ones have a 15mm offset, while the stock GX ones are 25mm offset. I’m wanting to fit 33” pizza cutters and am curious how much potential rubbing there will be and if the zip tie trick and some heat gun work will be enough, or if there’s a potential need for a body mount chop.

Does anyone have any experience running these rims and what kind of problems did you run into?

You just gotta go to Discount Tire and try a few, and then use your best judgment on how they'll track within the wheel well at full lock and articulated. Because the wheel alignment is variable and affects the clearance greatly, there won't be a right answer, even if someone else has the same tires and wheels. 33" pizza cutter may still require a BMC depending on your alignment. I have 0 offset wheels with 265's and no rubbing. Lots of guys on here have 0 offset methods with 33's but a lot did a BMC. Sorry, I know that's not much help but I would think you would get more clearance from a good high caster alignment than another 1cm of wheel offset.

Another data point for you: My 2017 GX has OEM 17" FJ Cruiser wheels. I think they have an offset of 15mm. I'm running them with 265/70/17 Wildpeaks. The wheels/tires were the first mod I made. I had some rubbing at full lock, but was able to use a heat gun and maybe some zip ties to get the needed clearance.

I presume they are the same as the FJ cruiser steelies, in which case you should be fine. The only wheels you have to watch out for are some of the TRD wheels.

My buddy runs these and no issues at all.

Aside from wheel offset, many rubbing issues run into how wide your tire is. You can run a taller tire if it's narrow, than a shorter wide tire.

This video may be helpful for the OP

No issues on TRD off roads and 275/70/17 Wildpeaks. Not 33, but close and plenty of clearance.

I have run 285 70r17 and 33x10.5r17 on oem wheels. The rubbing can all be remedied by moving the fender liners if you dont run spacers or anything else to increase your scrub radius.

Assuming alignment, of course. That's the other factor that can make you rub when maybe you shouldn't.

I am also running 33.3" tires on the oem GX wheels and have wheeled with them.

I run them with 33" tires but I have a 2.5 lift and just went ahead and did the BMC with the lift. It was only $300 for the BMC. The only issues I've had is with the front fender rubbing and have continued to trim. I'm at the point now that I have no rubbing at any flex or turning point. I mostly found that it rubbed at 3/4 turn and being compressed on the drivers side. Mostly when I pulled in my driveway.
