Howdy guys, I’ve owned 80’s for over a decade, been driving one since I was 12.

That being said, I don’t peruse the 100 section often. I have read the FAQ’s and gone over I think all the diesel swap threads I can find. Most seem oriented toward the 1HD-t and one awesome 1HD-FTE!

I’ve collected up almost every part I need to do my swap into my 80. But more and more I’ve been considering the 100 series. My main questions are easy so far since it’s early. This would be pertaining to the A343 equipped 100’s without drive by wire. I think that was only on A750’s?

1- What kind of clearance from diff/a-arms to hood area with a 2” lift? (Or whatever the high point on the lower suspension is)

2- Is the cruise setup on the 100 similar to later 80’s? I know those can work easily with a mechanical diesel and A440. I assume the speed sensor for the speedometer and odometer is on the t-case as well?

3- How would the rest of the 100 systems play with no input from the engine or tranny?

I’m sure these questions are pretty open ended, but my knowledge of the 100 platform is limited much more so than the 80, which I’ve been learning for a long time. So I appreciate the info and go easy on me! Ha ha.

I'd love to have a factory diesel 100 series, but I have to ask...

Just looking at the 4BD1T specs on paper, it seems like it would be a nice improvement on a 3FE equipped FJ80, but it seems like an awful lot of work, on a 2UZ-FE equipped 100 series, with very little (if any) real gain. Am I missing something here?

In stock form definitely. With a different turbo and turning a screw on the pump, it’s easily up to the early 2UZFE power levels. Do all that very efficiently and it will be close to the later ones in power. But even just new turbo, “power screw”, and intercooler it should be around 250hp at about 3k and 500 ft/lbs around 2k.
