Hello all,

I started "project fugly" tonight, where I plan on taking a 40 body, cutting it down and making a 45 extended cab with a tray back and mounting it all on a 60 series frame (with the back cut off) with a 3B-T, H41, toybox, and split case.

This might sound crazy but I am thinking of using a FF off a 45 under the 60 series frame. My concern is with the width of the axle. So my question is what is the best way to get a wider axle? i would like to stick with the toyota...

I am thinking of using IFS hubs and a 1.5 wheel spacer but I am unsure if this is a wise move due to the extra stess on the wheel bearings. Or am I better off to just use a huge wheel spacer?

any thoughts?

another prob with the 45 FF will be that your sping mounts won't line up with the spring hangers on the 60 frame... most likely you'll be trying to mount springs on your drums.

why not use a FF Fj60 axle?

I thought of that but 60 FF are harder to find and I already have the 45 FF

I mocked it up last night and took some mesurements. I don't think it is going to be as bad as I thought. The 45 axle is only 2" shorter, that's an inch a side, so a 2" spacer or a IFS hub with disk brakes will give me the same width and clearance as a 60 axle...I will probably run a different BS rim in the back as well.

It should work???

I have been told that running a spacer on the rear of the truck is not as "harmful" as up front due to no steering issues.

you can widen the 45 ff housing
we have been widening 60 series housings to 80 width
