at the 11th hour, the Governor called and granted Mootard a stay of execution.

The needle containing the fatal mixture of young asian man and ottawa was removed , and he was escorted back to the holding pen...

Meanwhile, nearby.....

A large woman with poor personal hygene wakes up in a bathtub full of ice with a note to call 911....

To be continued.

This otta be good.

Are ya gonna hook up power steering when you drop that high performance 1985 3B into mootard?

Rob

Muhuhaha. this was yesterday morning. Managed to get the lump out before the soccer game, then spent the afternoon swapping 24v bits back and forth between engines.

Gonna give the edic a shot with this engine. I have a 24v fcr and edic, so what hell. I'll plug em in and see if it works. If no, back to the cable.

Minor hiccup at this point however. Seems that while you can use an aluminum bellhousing on a 3b in a 40 frame, if you still have stock steering, not so much. Starter wants to occupy the same space as the steering box mount.

Which, blows massive amounts of ass, because the solution involves removing the flywheels from TWO ******* engines in order to swap that thin steel plate on the back of the block over.

Mr.T in his infinite wisdom, decided to change the bolt pattern on it ever so slightly.
At the time his reasoning for this probably wasn't obvious, or was just chalked up to engineers tinkering in order to justify continued employment, however it seems clear to me he was able to see the future and he did it just to fxxx me.
All evidence points that way.

So my morning will be spent pondering how to stop a pair of 3b's from turning over while getting the flywheel bolts out. I may have to build a plate to lock the flywheel from turning, them bolts is tight, and my impact gun is too wimpy..

Other solution would be to do the ps swap now, but I'd rather put that off...reaching saturation point with all this cruiser work lately.

. I'll still have to r/b my tcase once Kurt gets some kits in again, which will be a couple weeks apparently.

Made it this far today...

Just have to put my sketchy/rotten old rad back in and I can test fire.

gonna have to do something about that thing soon...just not today.

As much as I hate K&N and those conical air filters...one of those would really make life easier with the intake right now. May have to grab one (unless someone has one kicking around that they took out because it was too gay?)

Heinous fxxxery is required to get the stock airbox to work...not sure it's worth the effort it would take.

But that is on the list to contemplate tomorrow. Along with exhaust and hooking up gauges...Right now it's pub time...before my spine fuses for the evening.

I think that thats why the starters are clocked differently... between the 60 and the 40 series ... ? I remember I ran into this problem and we swapped the bits to the other clocking.... remember?

in 85 they went to aluminum bellhousings. So an 84 bj60 has the same starter config as a 40.

But yeah I remember. Had to swap noses on the 60's starter when I stuck in the 3 b I got from you. ( which runs like an absolute top by the way, zero smoke, tons of oil pressure. How bout that?)

After these last couple weeks, trust me, I'm well versed in the starters and mfing bellhousings.

So the large man nearby has a new Donaldson Filter setup he'll sell me.

2" inlet and outlet.

what'ya think. Is 2" restrictive? Donaldson probably flows better than the stock...which isn't a helluva lot bigger inlet/outlet.

I'm gonna grab it from him and poke around with it, see how it fits, and read up on it's specs when I see it's model#.

Be easier if it was bigger. Turbo inlet is 2.5" and the snorkel top I aquired is 3".( easy, it's waaay down the list. don't have the tube for it yet)

Used a Donaldson many moons ago on a FJ40 diesel convrsion, it was rated for big CFM. I liked the overall quality and design of that unit...:beer::beer:

Yur gonna like the way it pulls with the little wind blaster on top....

Yeah should be good.

I opted not to use the Donaldson, was pretty small, and yet STILL managed to have the ports in awkward places.

So heinous fxxxery of the stock airbox ensued. :hillbilly:

Still isn't a terribly fair run to the turbo, but unless I want to move that starboard battery, and put the air box up front, there's not much else I can do.

I shortened and angled the outlet snorkel, and cut up the mounts so it sits flat on the fender.

This is one of the cool cyclonic air filters with the little pot on the bottom you shake the dead wasps and crap out of every 6 months , so I'm glad I get to keep using it.

I need a better bit of hose for the intake. That piece is pretty much done.

and then made a plate for mounting a couple gauges in the ashtray hole. Yes they're different colours...:doh:

This was the equivalent of taking the afternoon off. I'll do exhaust another day. Two gauges fit in the ashtray hole without any molesting of the dash, which was kinda nice.

I considered using this thing for gauges, but decided against it..if you want it buy me a

Also hooked up the edic parts I have...zero signs of life from it all. I figger I'll spend about half an hour seeing if I can find the problem, and then it's back to the cable.

Took it for a quick burn, 8" of exhaust so I didn't want to stray too far , it sounds like a harley powered dentist's drill , and pulls like a boy who's just seen his first set of boobies.

I hooked up my little blinky led that used to be on the pyro alarm to the oil pressure switch, so it flashes when there's no op, mainly because I didn't want to remove the led and be back to a hole in the dash.

Couple minor issues...seems the fan wants to self clearance itself a bit when I stomp on it, or when the truck flexes. I'll see if I can tweak the shroud around a bit..but I'm sure the plastic fan will wear down eventually...:hillbilly:

and as an homage to the cruiser snob/douchebag faction that's arisen in the past few years who turns his nose up unless it's OEM and shiny , arrive in a small baggie from toyota at a cost per ounce higher than cocaine, be ceramic coated, powder coated , dipped in sprinkles and sequined, primed with 14 coats of expensive horse**** , and generally everything an old tractor shouldn't be, the truck now shuts off with a hunk of rope .

That is all.

Well said my friend, well said. ***en eh, now wheel that biotch!

Nice!

watch out for that fan... I had one self clearance itself snap a blade off and kill my rad... 200 dollar clearance job...

Oh yeah I plan to fix it. Sounds too horrible to leave alone... it was a short test ride...

cool I figured you would be... just have painful 200 dollar memory... (that was the weekend 4x4ing trip before the 2F-> swap)

yeah, it's only the barest contact, doesn't do it at idle, but sounds like hell. I probably just need to pry the base of the rad support a little bit one way or the other.

At least now it should be well marked so I know which way to move it...

I'm not sure if there's anything quite as hateful as fan shrouds. 42 is better than the 60, but still a total pain in the ass.

Makes me miss the Cat rad I had in the old crackwhore. twice as thick as the stock one, never had a shroud on it, never even got warm.

Gonna pick up a chunk of 2.5" tube and a couple bends today so I can yet again do exhaust, see if I can't get it to fit inside the frame rail beside the tcase...it'll be tight, but I hate it when it's outside under the passenger door.

About ten years ago I swore I'd never do exhaust again...since then...this is about the 10th time I've done it. :bang:

ya if I wasn't so cheap I'd get an exhaust shop to do it! :D Its not that bad though. Better than wiring

Ya it will fit... I have mine there... when I made my new cross member I had to squish down the straight pipe a fair bit to get it to not bang on the supports I made... its a bit of a bitch to keep from rattling... I have 3 exhaust hangers now I think pulling it all different ways...
