might be interested, I put out a feeler for some parts on blackflag, kinda hoping for one I don't have to mess with, but we'll see what turns up.

As for timeline, next couple weeks I'm thinking.

which part do you mean when you say 4 speed shifter? I have a spare 4 speed and split case, but I'm hanging on to them until I can take this thing for a burn and listen for growls...

Updating to newer

Let me know if something else turns up.

My 74, 4 speed case uses the older 3 speed type lever. I've got a newer style lever that should work, but I don't have the matching lever that clamps on to the top of the transfer case (hi/low range) which points forward. The three speed lever points to the side. I don't know if that makes any sence to you or not.:D

The newer style is less prone to slop/play in it.

is this what is going to be replacing the 81?

yeah , partially anyways. I like being able to fart around with my cruiser on the weekend, modifying , upgrades, welding s*** to it, that sorta thing, and the 81 there just isn't much I can do, and it's too big fat and shiney to wheel.

plus, my quality of workmanship looks right on a 40, but would look like ass on an 80....

might pick up a little commuter car, jetta or something, but usually the wife and I carpool in to nanaimo, so I may not need it, but she wouldn't mind a few less miles going onto her crv either.

huh...just tack a spare 5 gallon bucket in there and your off to the races man! its the real traditional bucket seat lol

Heh, yeah found a honda gas tank on the shelf, thinkin' it'll get that for a while...

Plan to get it to the backyard tractor stage first, then we'll see about making it roadworthy...

Got a bit more done today...

went for the stock fj40 "mustard yellow" colour.

Gave mel a vote on colour, she wanted something bright, but she's kindof sick of red, and I'm tired of green so...

turned out pretty well, maybe a 6 foot paintjob, which compared to my usual 15 footers ain't bad...;p

I really just wanted to get the cowl and dash done so I could get the thing going back together a bit, so the pile of parts surrounding it is a bit smaller....

so basically it's got a squirt to the back of the doors, and I wasn't too fussy back there, as I haven't done any body work yet.

but easy enough to squirt again back there when the time comes. It's funny how much stuff just swaps across to the older tub. not sure of the age of the tub, but mid 70's somewhere...

couple annoying changes are the smaller hole for the base of the steering column, and the decorative vent on the cowl that performs no function whatsoever, but you still have to run drain hoses for the stupid thing...

I cant believe how fast things are going, the must-terd must have bee still damp when you started reassembling things?

ha, only the windshield frame , which I gave the high speed hose down with paint and then it started raining a bit and I had no where else to put it except on the truck...

but whatever, good enough. me not fussy.:D

I was only worried about paint with the cowl bits, as they were already stripped and ready, rest of the truck needs body work, so the mootard applications are going to slow down now.

Plust I need to knock out another set of FBG fenders now...at least I got to use toshi's set as a refresher on how the molds work, it'd been yeeeeears...

Good thing the molds didn't sell.

yeah this is the argument I use with :princess: when I get accused of being a packrat....

Think I'll just continue to trip over the molds in the goatbarn for a few more years, until I build a proper barn back there with room for all my junk and boat projects etc.
