Who's running 42 on a mini truck rear?

How is it set up?

gears?

shafts?

locker?

weight of the rig?

power?

What is breaking????

can't decide if I wanna go with 42's on my new rig?

thanks. dave

I've seen the ring and pinion disintegrate on a 4.10 geared minitruck rear with 40's. light truck, early 80's toy , rear tubed, with a weak 22R.

Seen the pinion chunk under a Tacoma (TRD, 8" R&P) with 38.5's

They'll let anyone on this board nowadays, won't they.. :P

currently got new yukon 5;29's coming from bobby. front and rear, long fj-80 birf set up in the front w/e-locker
rear, long'd 5;29 yukons on a spool in a taco rear diff. will end up with polly shafts.

can't decide if the rear will hold up to my foot. (200hp 4.3/auto/4;1 300 3100 lb rig, coilovers etc)
I don't wanna have to drive like a puss for fear of braking stuff.

whatya think????

going into this

ring and pinion will die..

taco is described as a 8.4..

But it really is amost no larger than a 4 cylinder ring and pinion..

it does have the bearing cap supports. And will probably be the strongest diff out there for the application.

It will all depend on how you drive it and what ratio..

Any gears can be cryo'd for longer life.

42's can break D60 ring and pinions with a heavy foot in a buggy. A 8" ring gear is weak compared to what else is out there.

If you use the truck the way he is supposed to it will fail.

Build a 9" six lug and call it good.

Doesn't matter who cryo's or heat treats the ring/pinion gears. 5.29 gears on 8" ring gear is not much meat to begin with. Your rear end is going to break.

Based on the configuration of your rig, I'm predicting that you will blow up your rear end quickly.

yeah, i think the front will be fine, the rear concerns me a little! I will probably stick with the 4d's unti i get the rear steer axle built. (fj 80 rear with fj-80 balls, long birfs etc:D ( (PIMP)

Ary, the Mtr 4d's are probably for sale, got my beedy little eyes on 39" Krawlers!

i doubt that will hold

80 rear is not an 8" I've also got access to a tundra rear. From talking to bobby long, he was not seeing a problem with the setup.

Dave, I think he thought you meant you wanted to put an 80 front axle in the rear.

Adapting 80 outer knuckles the a Cruiser 9.5" axle would indeed be pimp. I know where you can find the Longfields(hint, see sig) :D
And a complete waste of time/money.

The 80 birfs are basically no stronger than the 30 spline longs. No benefit to running 80 knuckles on a 40 center section. Other than worse steering possibilities...
