Hey all, I´ve been a happy FJ 40 owner now for a few years, been sort of pecking away at it the whole time getting it into pretty "good nick" as the britts say (which I´m not). Anyway, some time ago I had the opportunity to drive a 95 troopie here in Peru and was impressed to say the least. I miss the sophitication of a newer vehichle, especially the air con and softer ride. What I would like to know is: I assume the ride of a short wheel based, leaf sprung, 70 series is somewhere between that of a 40 and a long wheel based coil spring 70 series, but to which side of the middle of the road do they fall? Would the ride of this rig be significantly better than a stock 40 or basically the same?

ALSO, even here they are hard to come by, but I know where there is a very well taken care of (supposedly) 85 with 300K Km, from the pics it looks really good, but they want 5K US. Heres a link to the rig (camioneta toyota land cruiser 4x4 - Lima - Otros vehículos - camioneta corta) any opinions greately apprecated...

thanks
Mark Sheldon

I suppose the 70 series you are looking is the one of the photo, and also is standar, the ride will be the same as the 40.

Remember, you will have leaf springs not coils.

Yah, I suppose comparing a shorty with leaves to a longwheelbase with coils is useless. At least I need coils, even if it´s still short.

thanks

With a little work you could improve the ride over a 40. I think the 70 springs are longer and the cabin is quieter making the 70 that little bit more comfortable.

The 73/74 series is much better vehicle to drive in ll day. I was out towing a trailer all day with mine yesterday in the summer heat and it was great with the aircon on full bore and the windows up:D

We would be luckier if they kept selling the shortys and middys then we could have coiled front ends
