I took my stabilizer off so I could replace part of my oil pump and have been running without it for a few months. Felt find before and still does. It is likely safer to have it though.

Update time! TCCN automotive rehauled my entire front end, all OEM seals, pads and rotors, brand new Birfield Joints and wheel bearings. I wish I had taken pictures of the brand new Birfs, they were awful pretty. The previous job, done by my old mechanic, was done with the incorrect grease, and he didnt replace many of the 25 year old seals. When Ahmed attempted to remove the now 29 year old seals, they disintegrated upon his touch. There was almost no grease inside, so the birfs were shot. I rode them like that for 25,000 miles. I'm amazed they went that long without catastrophic failure. Kudos to the 80 for being so damn strong. Anways, I still need to get a front end wheel alignment but she's bearable to drive around as is. He was unable to replace the steering stabilizer because the previous owner modified it, therefore the OEM style shock won't bolt in. I'll take pictures of that later.

I'm currently driving the 80, so I fluid filmed the entire underbody, just for extra protection. In the spring time she's due for a coolant drain and fill, as well as an OEM radiator. Nothing wrong with the coolant system now, but the radiator isn't original so I'd rather replace and not have to worry about it over the summer. I'd also like to replace the windshield this year. I haven't been active on here a lot, I was busy with closing on my very first home.

I'd call it a driver quality restoration, definitely not a nut and bolt full restoration, but I appreciate your kind words. At first I wanted to make this another wheeling rig but it was just too nice and too well looked after to start throwing an ARB catalog at. Ahmed definitely thinks the world of my 80 and he doesn't expect to hear from me until spring. I'm happy you found someone in our area for these amazing vehicles. Once I found him I knew he would do anything on my 80 I wouldn't feel comfortable or have the time to do. To date the only failure I've had is the original starter. ODO is 213,500. Oil changes are done every 5,000 miles by me. I tinker here and there with it but hardly the time for pictures. And no one touches that vehicle except me and TCCN. Cheers

Hi folks, my heart has been broken for a few days now, and it's time to break yours. Ford Escape drove out in front of me, I swerved, and this is the result. Thankfully my son and I were unharmed. I've already gathered comparables around the country as there's not many of these 80s around Illinois. 214,500 miles on her at the time of the accident on Saturday. Ahmed has briefly looked at it, and found that the cam seal is leaking oil. My birfields are clicking turning right. I have kept all receipts of all the money I've spent on services and parts that you've followed along with. I'm hoping the body shop will be able to fix it, but I'm not holding my breath. She still drives down the road just fine and straight. I chose the body shop based on Ahmeds recommendation, and they are in my insurance network. Will hand wash the truck before taking it in. This sucks.

The "horns" of the frame are straight and fine, the hood does open, and the bracket that the radiator bolts to is also straight and not damaged.

I'm happy I was able to drive away. The Escape couldn't escape from the scene, had to be pushed and then towed away. We still went to the arcade after. Little guy was sad for sure, but this is an opportunity to teach him that material things are just that.

How hard is a hood to source? Outer fenders? I have a grill. I do kinda dig how it looks without the flare. I have been told by a few that it could be worse.

Hood can be bought new from Toyota. Fenders are a NLA but they pop up here and there. I bought two a year ago and see them come up for sale often. I’m sure the used parts guys can source one for a months mortgage or less (lol-not really). Flares have to be sourced used or aftermarket

Just finished with the body shop. They'll get back to me on parts and what not. My insurance will give me a call next week with the news. Anything else I should do besides gathering comparables for the year condition and mileage?

Update, State Farm has deemed the vehicle repairable, body shop guy was excited to see it fixed but cautioned it was still early and it is still early. Not getting my hopes up just yet. I can just see the delivery truck pulling up now with ARB bumpers. I think it's time I get back into my most beloved hobby.

Well folks, heard back from State Farm today, and they decided to deem the vehicle a Total Loss after further evaluation. They gave me an offer, and also sent me some of the latest market offerings for vehicles with similiar age and mileage. This is heartbreaking. I'd get $17,8xx after my deductible. Is it worth fighting for $20,000-25,000? Thanks again everyone, for all your knowledge and for following along with my journey of being an 80 owner. So much I had to do with that vehicle still. At least I'll always be able to go on YouTube and look at what once was.

Find out what the buy-back price would be.
I think it would be worth fighting for the extra value and buy back. Especially if you have some receipts of work done recently.
