Hello
I’m looking for a 4 speed transmission and transfer case for my fj40. I am looking for one from mid 70’s and up. Located in central California.

Scan classifieds. There is a 4spd for sale for

$1000 😳

Are you converting from a three speed?

X2, if you are, you'll need a few more pieces than just the 4 speed.
also you'll want a specific 4 speed if using the 1 piece transfercase, nothing newer than 1980

Newer.

My 1976 Colombian truck Is getting a 1979 H42 with paired 1979 transfer case. It’s taken a while to source all parts then reseal everything. I’m going to video the entire upgrade. The most complex part for me is cutting the drive shafts to shorten the rear and extend the front. Also, I need to modify the transmission hump shift cane hole.

Yep, you need a 4 speed bellhousing and clutch fork, and the driveshaft issue

you can stick with the 3 speed clutch fork as long as you stay with the flywheel and clutch. Also need the flywheel cover that goes with the 4 speed bell housing underneath it.

I have a 4 speed in the classifieds that I just bumped. $400 in Santa Paula, CA.
Do you have the transfer case too?

I could rebuild a pair for you, but it would take about six weeks with my current availabilit/workload. I just finished rebuilding a pair for @martymart last week, and a pair for @mrtodds77 before that. You are welcome to leave a voicemail at my shop if you want to discuss.

I can get you the other pieces as well.😊

I seem to remember I had to cut into the cross member to clearance the t-case on my '69 when I put a 4-speed in. I'll be doing that down the road a bit with the '69 FJ40 I bought recently.

I have a 68/69 as well. I didn’t have to cut the crossmember for the 4 speed swap. It’s tight but it works. I did cut one of the side supports for transfer case clearance as it moves back the transfer case about 3”.
