Man this is kinda short notice.
Yes, sorry about that. This is an annual event, usually someone copies the info to the CSC forum, but apparently no one remembered to do that this year. Last year's thread-
Four peaks cleanup 2015 didn't get much response when it was posted early.
They are expecting 250-300 participants or more this year. This event, and clean-ups in general, are important for many reasons. Obviously, they get areas cleaned up, which is huge. They are opportunities to educate the public who use the areas, to change behaviors, which leads to less trash in the future. They also show the agencies in charge of the area that the OHV community cares about our lands and wants to continue to have access. In addition, the volunteer hours are often used as matching 'funds' when grants are applied for, so this directly affects how much money volunteer organizations, like Tonto Recreation Alliance (TRAL), can receive to put towards projects such as the Adopt a Trail (ADAT) Program, which maintains trails and trail signage in Tonto (and thereby keeps trails open), and the FR42 Project, which is currently working on getting that trail open again, along with improvements to the area such as staging areas and kiosks. So, clean-ups like this are not empty gestures with no long-term benefit- they directly affect off-highway access.
From the Copperstate 4 Wheeler's website:
Fourpeaks Cleanup
The 2015, 6th annual Four Peaks Cleanup was very successful. 323 volunteers
assembled at the staging area on Saturday November 7th to donate their time and
energy to contribute back to their community. Four 40 yard roll off dumpsters were
filled with 21 tons of trash. That’s 41,200 pounds of garbage! Thank you to all who
volunteered, participated in planning for, and contributed to our cleanup efforts.
