Considering putting a 4-link in the rear of my 60. Is a 1/4 eliptical a viable option? I'm seeing Woody running F-350 springs in the rear of his 40... so I guessing that's not a good idea in a loaded 60?

Goal is to create a suspension with better street manners, approximately 4" lift over stock and do something unique.

Truck will be a DD/ weekend warrior with the occasional big trip. The importance in that order.

Thanks
Chris

1/4 eliptic would work just fine. It is VERY east to fine tune the spring rate by adding/subtracting leaves....

My first question is how are your fab skills. It sucks to break a rear link mount..

Would you be able to build a leaf pack strong enough to support a loaded 60 though?

My fab skills will be on par when the project starts... right now researching. Bought the recomended books and have been reading.

Chris, you're gonna need a new frame first from what you were telling me on the phone today :D

Seriously though, why? I think it's gonna be a lot more work/$$$ dialing in a 4-link than it would be to throw on some proven lift springs and call it good.

:flipoff2: The part that's in trouble is the part that the 1/4 eliptical springs would replace. I saw that you finally did some work on your truck before trying to burst my bubble. :flipoff2:

Looking like I outta just spring it over and leave well enough alone for right now.. espically since Mace has undermined my confidence...:crybaby:

But could you build a 1/4 eliptical pack that would maintain a comfortable spring rate with the load rating you would need to hold up the rear of a loaded 60?

Just lookin to have a little fun do something different.

Actually I dissagree, if you do your homework and read read read, you can more than likely come up with something that will kick butt over stock springs.

Also I have seen some local boys build some four link stuff with cheaper materials that just plain outwheel everything with leaft springs SOA.

Cost wise it can be done cheaper than leaves. But not easily. You need the time to wait for the excellent deals..

It WILL be more work and time though..

Hey, I just wanted to make sure you knew that if something fails you will have a headache on the trail. So build accordingly ;)

you go ahead and do it, the fab will be fun as long as you have have everything ready to go and do it in one week end

We will be doing one within the next week or 2, check the Wagon Build thread in the White Trash forum.
