Well darn it. Now your making me second guess the swap.
Can I use either of the lockers from the 80 and them in my 60 axles?

With a little work you can use a rear 80 series locker in the front....I would not run one in the rear though.

Yulp been on the trail with failures of the knuckle arms with 80 series. Prob a case of loose studs....

Yes there have been a few r&p failures because they are the same size of mini truck pinions and are very weak in reverse.

Rear locker seems to be the worse out of all of them, with its current design the rear axle shafts twist and become fused in the axle housing. A few case people had to cut into the axle housing itself to torch off the axle. And as for more maintenance the rears are full floaters if they have not been serviced yet they are over due.

As for the asisn hubs, the front axles use driveflanges in stead of hubs since they are an full-time 4 wheel drive. So you will have to source hubs for them is they are newer than 92 if they are axles from the 91-92 80 series 60 series Aisin hubs will bolt up just fine as I run them on my 80 as well.

Sooooo all those things are enough for me not to run them...The 60 series axles I feel are stronger. I like the 62 series the best...for a few reason and am still kicking my self for getting rid of the extra set I had.

Also, im interested in what kind of situations the failures took place. Im not planing to do anything super hardcore. Or did they break doing easy stuff?

Thanks. But why not in the rear?

Because of the broken axle problem. If you break an axle, the splines twist and lock what's left of the shaft inside the housing. It takes metal surgery to get it out. Even the 3rd cannot be removed when this happens. Not a good design IMHO.

I'd use the Fj60 pieces too. Upgrade the fronts to Longfield stuff, use the TG 6 stud knuckles, 6 stud Highsteer, and rear Poly axles. That will be stronger than any 80 series set up.

I will be interested to see how the link thing goes.

Thanks for the help, but i still have more questions.
Does the problem with lockers happen on both front and rear? Is so, sounds like i should not use the 80 rear in the front of my 60?

Based on how the locker works, using a rear 3rd in the front housing of your 60 would run the same risk. That's a guess, though, and Christo Slee would have a better answer. I'd run ARBs, which do not have this issue.

This is waht im thinking.....

You are not going to be able to mount the coils outside of the frame, keep that in mind. Inside of the frame is gonna be a PITA because of the offset DS.

Also, packaging will be tight with the offset DS and the PS links.

One of the things you are going to notice when you start working the design out on paper is that there are serious limitations on where you can put your links..

Mock it up on paper before you commit to anything ;)

:D...and Mace made it sound so easy as if a caveman could do it...I hear ya though.

It is not hard. there are just quite a few things to consider that is all.

Just like doing a springover. I would hate to be the one that found out the hard way my DS was too long ;)

A good laugh...one of my buddies did just that a few weeks ago after burning everything in really really good. He quadruple checked 3 corners, and forgot the 4th.

Do you say this due to clearance with the tire or something else?

tire mostly..

Just ckimb under the rig and take a good long look at where everything is.
If you want 4-6" of lift, things fit easier. If you want to have a short rig, things get tight, fast..

anyone got a pic of the 62 axle with its truss... sounds great. wish i didn't need a motor, i might look for some axles off a 62... i would love the 4.11 ratio for sure!

Well today I ordered up most of the parts to start my FJ80 axle 4-link swap. I should be able to start early next week. I will be posting updates of the build as I go.:grinpimp:
