I did a search on Turbo systems for the Land Cruiser. Found a page that lists Safari kits for the 4.5L engine in the 100 series. Huh? Is Toyota putting 4.5L engines in the 100 Series in some country outside of the US (presumably Australia)?

Assuming a turbo system is available for the 100 series with a 4.5, wouldn't it be a direct fit in our rigs?

the fzj105 is a 100 series body on the 80 frame with the 4.5 litre 1fz motor, but the motor was updated in 1998. It has a different throttle body, intake plenum and exhaust manifold among other things. So no I don't think it would fit.. Safari sells a turbo system for the 80 but, like the 100, it is out of production and there is minimum purchase of 25 required.

18 mpg (us) would be pretty impressive.

Yep, the 4.5l is std in the ZA spec 105 series GX spec. (SFA, SRA, Factory lockers front and rear)

In the front of the pic is the AUS Spec 80 Series GXL and my 105 series is at the rear.

Hey, when did you go to Cape Town? Good trip? Thinking of hitting SA, but as of last year was told a place to truely keep on your toes. Any info would be great. Brian

I might be wrong but currently they 4.5 is not offered in a 100/105, it was but I think they droped it.

True... I saw a bunch of them in Dubai last time I was there. Wasn't sure what was going on at first, then realized probably something we never seen in the U.S.

wow so they do and with a cast iron cylinder head no less. does toyota make these trucks in south africa?

I had a friend fly in from Australia to ride with me on the Golden Spike Trail on Thursday. He said in Australia the 1FZE and the Turbo Diesel 1HD-FTE are only avialable in the 100 series, the V8 is available in the 105 series. I thought that was really strange as I thought it was opposite. He emailed me the brochure and sure enough that is what it says. I'm not sure if it has always been this way. A good friend of mine is overseas with the Air Guard. They are tooling around in FZJ 100s. They are IFS, 5 speeds, 1FZE, with manual hubs and part time transfers. They also have inward facing bench seats in the rear. I remember at Cruise Moab 2000 the Venezuelans had a 99 80 series there and they told me that was the first year of the 1FZE in their country. The 70 series with him had 1FZ carbed motors. Options Options Options, in the US we don't get no stinking Options!

I thought it was the opposite too, something about clearance issues with the lower hanging bits of the V8 and the live axle.

In Australia the 105 series has the SFA and the 100 Series is IFS. I am under the impression that the V8 is the IFS units as also in ZA.

Toyota ZA import the Cruisers. They are not locally made.

I always thought the front axle was from the 78 Series Land Cruiser. 5 lug as opposed to 6 lugs that are on the 80 Series... plus manual hubs.
