Bit of a disappointing tail here but am still otherwise thrilled with the truck. I discovered upon detailing that the driver side rear seat floor anchor had what appeared to be abnormal rust accumulation. In addition to that was some missing edges of the under carpet (not sure the proper term here). I took a couple of pictures, seen below, and sent to the guy I purchased from. He gave an honest answer: He had a new battery for another vehicle in his trunk that turned on its side without his noticing. Went to clean out trunk a week later and noticed holes in a blanket and jacket to which he then found battery acid had spilled in the trunk.

Darn. At first thought I'm thinking I can maybe remove the anchor itself as it appears to be bolted down (although I believe I see some corroded nuts/bolt heads so I have no doubt this would not be easy) but obviously I should dig a little further. I remove the cover and what I see is not very pretty. On the bright side it does not appear to be affecting the body of the trunk as much as just the sound deadening material, which I think is making it look worse than it is. I plan to do some scrubbing/vaccuming to get a better look. Hoping may still be an option to replace the anchor but am struggling with a part number. Did some digging and believe may be one of the linked items below. 7260160010 or 7260160020

Anyone have any experience with this? Or just advice on if I'm heading right direction? Would love some way to confirm the part/part number as well. I apologize for grammatical errors as I'm sure there are many.

The rearmost striker looks like 72601-60020
I think you need 2x 72702-60070 bolts per striker

Note that the front striker on the 3rd row has a different number, but yours seem to be fine.

2nd row striker covers have sacrificial plastic clips that get destroyed when you pull them up, but it looks like 3rd row does not. Or I can't find a number for them anyway. If you see little white plastic clips on either side of those plastic covers, we'll need to dig those up.

If you decide to do the carpet and pad, here's the number for black: 58570-60A92-C1
It isn't cheap.

Personally I'd be on a mission to get that whole carpet pad lifted and see what the sheetmetal looks like under it. There is potential for serious corrosion under there. You'll need to lift the plastic guard at the bottom of the lower tailgate, remove the third row leg covers, and I think you can work the edges of it out from under the side interior panels without removing them. I believe the front edge separates from the main carpet via some kind of channel or velcro. They do come as separate parts.

One of those strikes was the most corroded part I've seen on my 2009. Seems to be a good collection point for moisture inside the rig.
Paint on some rust remediator in black and carry on.

Update: Got the strike out, put a baking soda paste on everything I could. Actually pleased with what I could see under the mat from the edges. Not thrilled with the rust but seems like it could be worse. Also, looks like I may have sacrificed my plastic clip...

I had assumed it was a symptom of the battery acid that likely set in that cavity at some point. Should I consider it being something else? I had planned to just sand it down some more and spray a product like CorrosionX or Corroseal on it. I have ordered the replacement strike and bolts but would like to have it prepped by the time I get them.

Definitely the acid. I don’t think they put a very robust corrosion proof coating on them due to being interior, so I have seen them rust occasionally. I assumed being bathed in skittles and jolt cola was enough to get it started.
But in this case between the excessive rust and dissolved carpet.. absolutely the battery acid the PO told you about.

Any chance someone knows or could help direct me to a resource to find the torque spec of the bolts for the replacement strike? Thanks in advance!

Bummer about discovering this after you bought it but glad you found it and investigated further. Do you plan to R2 the carpet?

I assume R2 carpet means to clean the carpet? If so, I had actually just had all carpets cleaned and was simply inspecting the thoroughness when I found this. With that said, I feel like I do smell some amount of odor from the acid when I get close to it. Looking under the edges I did not find any other damage to the body so I am hoping to avoid replacing and trying to avoid removing and cleaning again. Will put the carpet and rubber mats on top of it for now and see if it goes away.

R2 in my line of work means to remove and replace but you’ve answered my question. Hope it works out for you; the acid didn’t do much damage, if anything, it appears it was only superficial.

Not the best pictures but the CorrosionX went on well. Got new strike installed last night. Thanks everyone.
