3rd Row Retrofit? (1 Viewer)

I have a cruiser but it should be similar enough..

At a minimum you want to tape over or or fill the bolt holes because dust can float in through them into the cabin. They don't go straight to the underbody as in you can see the ground, but they do go to other voids that clearly are more open to the elements.

I then cut chunks out of a 1x4 poplar board and sanded the edges. These shapes closely enough matched the holes in the carpet that when the HE/2-row rear cargo mat is over everything you can't tell there were holes. The two caveats are the brackets on the wheel wells.. I'm not sure about the LX but at least on mine they are rounded enough that they've never been super inconvenient to just sit there. Even with an inflated sleeping pad pushed against them.

Does anyone know if you can retrofit the OEM 3rd row seats to a 5 seater 2016-2021 Land Cruiser?
@kong24680 It can be done, and in fact we just did this a few weeks back. It was one of the 'its what the client wants' projects, so we took it on...went all in...and made it appear like it came from factory with 3rd row option. Having said that, I agree with @bloc its just not that practical unless you already own one without AND MUST have it for the one you own.

P.S. We took alot of notes and pictures, and there is a little more to consider than the above, so if anyone is ready this after the fact feel free to reach out to us for tips, notes, gotchas, etc. Our email address is on our site.

Just curious what did this end up costing? I went down the rabbit hole and the cost seemed really high. I ended up getting a 3rd row equipped vehicle.

Thanks to all of your responses, they’ve all been super helpful. Long story short, I really want a 3 row heritage edition 200 series, but they only came as an option on the 2021. There seems to be a lot more 5 seater 2020 year model heritage editions on the market that are significantly cheaper, so wanted to explore retrofitting the 3rd row.

I think the move might be just to find a 3rd row non-heritage edition and retrofit all the heritage stuff. Don’t want to mess with welding brackets.
That is exactly what I did. It is very easy.

How much of the stuff will you retrofit? A lot of it would be very expensive.. removing door moldings, removing cool box, sourcing gold-stitched seats, special headlamps and grille…

The wheels, badge, and rack would be easy enough though
I did everything but the cool box and seats and it was not that expensive. The base model has nicer leather and the cool box is great.

Def not cheap. Ours was less b/c already had one with some 3rd row components. Safe to say $2-5K no matter what.
Yeah that seems inline with what I estimated as well. You should definitely share the process! Would love to see what’s involved

Makes a lot of sense if you’re planning to keep it as a driver, but I think a real heritage edition will retain a lot more value in the long term compared to a base model. That was a part of the reason I initially wanted a real heritage edition vehicle.

I ended up just getting a slee built 2021 LX570 with 3rd row instead.

I'm not selling it. According to KBB the difference is $1k. Congrats on your LX.

Thanks! I’m also planning on keeping mine forever as well.

I wouldn’t look at KBB at all. Take a look at actual auction sale results/data on Bringatrailer. There is a pretty sizable differential in price for HE vehicles and base models with similar miles/condition.
