Are the front and rear 3rd members the same on a 40? Meaning, can I take the third member off the front of another 40 and put it on my back axle? Yes, I know about the spline and R&P differences. Just seems smarter to get a front and put it on the back, how many miles would a front 3rd member actually have on it? Probably not very many.

they are identical....IMO, one of the major advantages to the Cruiser is only needing to carry one spare....
The ONLY difference is a front diff does not have the center spacer block required for the rear c-clip axles...but you can reuse your old rear one when you install.
