Definitely in, and looking to caravan from northeast Louisiana, maybe meet up with a few of the guys from AL and GA along the way.
The funds for my front/rear bumpers pre-trip have evaporated (thanks to the wife!), so I'll be coming out with only lift/sliders/tires. Maybe I can tear my rear bumper off Nick-style...!

Count me in if kids can join me! Stan - if you are heading over on Thursday, we can caravan if you would like and get camp sites set up. Sign me up for the potluck Friday and I will smoke a couple of pork shoulders!

Put me down as a maybe. It's only a week after I get back from Germany but after having to cancel my reservation for the FJ Summit event, this would be a good possible alternative. FWIW, the HDC clan will be up there July 24 - 28 (when I'm still in Germany - dirtbags)
Will the camping be at a developed site with water (and toilets?) or do I need to bring a few jugs of water with me? Will this camping spot serve as the daily base camp?

We are in. I'm considering coming a day early/leaving a day late. Once I know the current camping site arrangements, I can figure out what I need to do.
I'm looking for scenic trails other than Black Bear. I've done it once and would like to try others, like Alpine Loop or Yankee Boy Basin. My truck is stock except for decent A/Ts. I still have the running boards on because I have a short wife and I'm too cheap to buy some step-sliders.

I'm an 80% probability. Will not be able to confirm until 1st of Julyish though, if that is ok?
80% in. I'm supposed to go visit my friend in Aspen around that time also. Kill 2 birds with one trip. Just have to see if I can get that much time off of work.

Heck yes, bring the kids. There will be plenty other kids as well!
I'll bring my wife and kids aged 10(g) and 11(b) with me.
I also will plan to be in the area Thursday afternoon.

I was out of cell service all day and came back to all these great posts! I will try to update the first two posts as soon as possible with each person's status. Some considerations:
Kids: Kids are encouraged! The reason I do this stuff if because of my kids and rest assured mine will be with me. Get them out to experience the great outdoors. We will have kids shirts available to purchase which they will love!
Pets: Good dogs are welcome. Bad dogs are not. Please bring the necessary tools to clean up after them and remember USFS guidelines require them to be on a leash. It is a little more laid back around camp but we still need to keep them under control.
Camping, We will be camping at 8,000+ feet and driving at 12,000+, it can get cold at night but shouldnt be too bad this time a year. Drink tons of water due to the altitude and Asprin/ibuprophen are good for mild altitude sickness.
Hotels: If you must stay in a hotel, there are some great hotels in Ouray: 10 minutes from camp. May I suggest the Box Canyon Lodge, Victorian Inn, Twin Peaks and Beaumont.

Great points Jonathan. For you guys coming from the South, this is very high altitude when you're coming from sea level. There's a very good chance you'll feel the effects. Even if you've been up high before. Flu like symptoms, bad headaches, vomiting, dizziness, sleeplessness, lightheaded, shortness of breath are all possible. People have different susceptibilities to altitude sickness; some people can tolerate it, some cant. Regardless of how healthy or in shape you are, it can kill you. Be aware of the signs. Descending to a lower altitude is the only remedy if you're really sick.
I've spent a good deal of time above 14,000ft here in Colorado and I can tell right away when I'm getting some altitude sickness. My oldest daughter has climbed with me too and she does not respond well above 10,000ft. Keep an eye on your kids, they may not know why they're feeling the way they are. It is extremely important to keep them (and yourself) hydrated.
I would like to add, if you can spare the vacation, come a couple days early so your body can acclimate to the higher altitude (5K - 8K feet) before you even consider heading up to 8K+. Do yourself a favor and spend a day or two in Albuquerque, Farmington, Durango, or Denver on the way there. They are in the 5K - 7K altitude range. There's neat stuff to see and do in all those places anyway.
I have a friend from coastal VA that came to visit a few times. We went to Mesa Verde on her second day here and had to turn right back around when we got to the visitor center (~7,500 ft) but she was fine at 5K feet. On another trip. we waited a few days before going there and she was fine.
