ok, so i bought a new MAF from a guy, and did a desmog, and replaced the upper intake hose due to a huge crack in the rubber. now, im having a pretty hard time getting the right idle. i pull the throttle cable, and it'll sit at normal idle, and rev up really well, but it pulsates, and seits at about 600 RPM when idleing. when i did the desmog, i followed spooks guide, and i havent gotten around to taking the EGR off yet. next week i will. and i left the vacuum lines from the hard lines to the EGR on there. plugged off the air injection manifold for now, another job for next week. any thoughts to what might be the problem?

sorry so long...

im thinking of it being the timing, i was wondering how you set the timing, i was reading something about using the diagnostics and putting a jumper in T1 and E1, anything you've got to help?

ok, thanks, would you have anything regarding it if it werent the timing.
i wasnt having this problem until i installed the new parts i got in, just a stock MAF and upper intake hose. i did the desmog before any of those parts went on.

The only idle issue I've had went away when I checked the throttle position sensor. I chocked it up to a loose/dirty connection. Couldn't hurt to double check TPS and AFM with a multimeter, and make sure the connectors look good. (I've heard of the AFM connector being F'ed up by disconnecting it wrong)

is there supposed to be a missing connector on the AFM, we are talking about the half oval on the MAF right, i noticed there is a pin inside the MAF for a connector, but not revers connector for it... Ground? if it is the TPS, how do i adjust to compensate?

I'll go grab my spare and have a look.

FSM :p

Ah, I might have to get out my camera then.

My AFM has 7 male terminals on its end, or is it the harness side that is "missing" one on yours?

Harness end has 6, so you're alright there.

Just a thought, have you pulled the EFI fuse to clear the computer, and let it relearn things? Was there anything altered with your partial de-smog that the computer is going to have to learn?

not that i know of, i just pulled everything but the EGR and air injection for the time being, so maybe the vacuum relay on the fender and VSV, ill pull the fuse, 90 seconds should be good. battery connected or no?

Just pulling the fuse should do it. So have you disconnected the 3 VSVs on the fender? One of them is for the fuel pressure regulator, and should either be kept, or else the line from it to the FPR hooked up to a constant vacuum (I'll see if I can find the thread on that).

Yah, I *believe* the FPR bit was missed in that. Not sure if that would affect the idle, but would have you running rich.

FPR is towards the front, pulsation dampener is towards the back (it has a phillips head screw under the plastic cap, you should make sure that is tight......)
