Hey all,
Just like to say thanks for all the useful info hidden in these forums.
I've recently gotten myself a '91 80 series,
3FE auto, petrol/lpg and I've been having issues. It was running a bit rough when I got it. We then changed and gapped the spark plugs, replaces dizzy cap and button, and cleaned out all of the air intake system.
The other morning, it suddenly lost all power, chugged and refused to run properly, with a top speed of 50km/h.
It is now idling fine until put into gear, blowing a mass of smoke and has fuel coming out the exhaust with an amount of oil. The oil level has not dropped according to my constant checking. It is also not firing on cylinders number 2&3, unsure about #1 as its a pita to get to. Their is a VERY small crack in the intake manifold, however it was running fine with that crack originally.
Total replaced parts so far are
Plugs
Efi relay
Alternator belt
Distributor cap
Rotor/button

Any idea would be greatly appreciated and I will be doing a compression test on it this weekend. Thanks guys

Did it run like that before you cleaned the afm and plugs, do you have a toyota service manual you need to narrow it down to fuel related or spark related on 2 and 3 first ,clogged injectors ,take out the plug and crank it to see if getting spark to those plugs, are there any codes

I don't have a service manual, only a an ellerys book. It ran fine before and after afm clean and new plugs. Ran fine after I changed dizzy cap and button. It was literally an all of a sudden death on the way to work one morning.

How do you know its not firing on all 6 you need to get a new intake boot it can't have any cracks was the efi relay you replaced new, used, oem

Efi relay was new, identical to the one I replaced which I believe was aftermarket.
Intake leak I'll be welding up this weekend, and I know it's not firing on at least those two cylinders, as when idling I can pull those two leads off and it makes no difference to the engine; any other lead and it starts to die out completely. I'm banging my head against the bricks at this stage because I'm thinking it's either two injectors stuck open and flooding the cylinders, or I was told they can detonate between the cylinders and destroy the head. (There are no other signs of a damaged head though, no coolant loss or oil loss that I've noticed)

Are there any codes being thrown

Okay you need to determine whether it's fuel or spark related let me think about it I'll get back to you

Just an update mate, haven't had a chance to check comp just yet but she's definitely getting fuel and spark. Could it be injectors stuck open or worse? I have an opportunity to pick up a second hand 3FE engine for $800, just wondering if it'd be worth grabbing it

It depends on the miles and the maintenance that was done on it

Is it getting spark to the dead cylinders take out the plug to those cylinders put them to ground and have someone crank it

can you check to see if your getting voltage to the injectors that aren't firing
Will do once I get home from work.
I saw your reply to my other post too mate, appreciate the advice but I'm in Australia lol, the 3FE wasn't very popular over here, most bought the diesel version. Starting to wish I had too haha

yeah i wish i had the diesel ,im just trying to narrow it down for you i have the same motor and have done a lot of maintenance on it and completly rebuilt it

I spoke to a local mechanic yesterday. His only suggestion was either injectors blocked open, or a detonation between the cylinders (which means a whole new head D: )
I also think oil galley plug may be buggered now, had a small amount of oil blow out into the dizzy
