I finally got my head back form the machine shop after blowing a head gasket and am ready to put it back on. Only problem is (other than not being able to find a 13x1.75 tap) is I can not find the torque specs or sequence for the head bolts. I am sure it is here somewhere but after a couple hours of searching I can not find it. Could someone please tell me the specs and procedure please? This is in a 91 if it matters.

Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks

Cant thank you enough.

It is odd that it says to tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts when theres 15 but I get the idea.

Again, thank you.

There are 10 with the plate washers.

5 do not have those.

I’m doing exactly the same on my 3FE that was just machined. Are your using the original head bolts? Anyone have thoughts on stretch? I can find someone to sell new?
Are all your pushrods straight and lifters in good condition? Mine are bent to hell all from really bad gas. Might anyone know where I can find them OEM or not?

Did you hydrolock the engine with bad fuel? I've never heard of bad fuel bending pushrods. You can get parts from For cheap if you can wait.

Seemed to me the consensus is the head bolts are in good shape they are fine to use again.

My lifters and push rods where fine so I reused those too.

Yes it was determined by the machine shop, who found bad gas when I delivered the head only and confirmed by them after I reported the previous owner had let the vehicle sit untouched for two years in the AZ sun that the gas had spoiled. They said this clogged at the valves which forced the rods to bend as the owner continued to try to get it to fire. See photo of what I pulled out vs. used that just arrived.

Tearing into it the head gasket clearly leaked as I found coolant in the intake. The fuel tank is off and I have cleaned out milky bad gas and rust. I am no expert but the smell of that was not right. I have coated the tank with POR-15 sealer (which is amazing), flushed the fuel lines with lacquer thinner and air, replaced the fuel filter and pickup screen. I have the original injectors and another set from previous owner and all are very dirty visually. Does anyone know how to properly clean them or should I just buy new?

I have all new gaskets for fuel pump, head, intake throttle body, distributor, oil pan, valve cover and lifter cover, I have thoroughly cleaning up carbon and burnt oil on the entire rocket assembly, valve cover, lifer cover, interior of the intake. On all of that where applicable I plan to use Permatex Assembly Lube and I believe I am to apply something like this Anti-Seize or a thread lock (which one?) to all significant hardware / fasteners (head, intake, exhaust ets.). Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Obviously I haver never been into and engine. Any tips, cautions and opinions if I am going to far? Its a 91 FJ80 I want to get another 100K out of and I only interested in to this one and right the first time.
