Looks like Miker has confirmed the 7 digits. Pablo-you are missing one I think. Based on the limited data here, yous is an 88 for sure. Did you look at the computer?

Thanks guys!

I guess I would be missing a digit, and the flywheel posting looks to have eliminated the initial zero after the 3F

I will go back and find my missing digit!

I have not looked at the computer, it is hiding above my glove box in the 55 (I'd have to move all my gloves!)

ok, here's mine and as far as I know these are original engines:

1988 FJ62, Production Date: Dec 87, Engine ID: 3F 0169671

1989 FJ62, Production Date: 6/89, Engine ID: 3F 0238337

Sidebar:
Something interesting I never noticed before is that the Dec 87 vehicle has a metal ID tag riveted to the door jam. The 6/89 has a sticker ID tag so looks like Toyota eliminated the metal ID tag.

Also, the metal tag is stamped with "Dec" for the month whereas the sticker on the 89 is a number representing the date "6/89" rather than "Jun 89".

Miker,

I did not thank you proper in my previous post.

I really appreciate your work to answer my question.

To be honest, I was really surprised at how little information was forthcoming on this topic. Definitely one of the quieter threads I have seen here on MUD. Could be that the 3FE just doesn't need much study.

So thanks for your efforts on my behalf!!!

I will proceed as if my 3FE is a 1988, probably in a 62 made after your Dec '87.

I will also find my missing digit on the block and post up for future generations.

Anytime, glad I could help. It does look like you are missing a digit. On our '89, it was hard to see that last one because of the wire harness. Had to look hard for it and I probably would not have found it if I was not already aware of how many digits were supposed to be there.

I think yours is a very early 88.

From my 1989, built 12/88......3F 0217814

Funny-When I first looked, I could not see any numbers or letters on the casting. I had to wipe off 20 years (this month!) of accumulated grime and then the numbers were visible.

You should be able to tell by the computer as well-the part number is stamped on it and I *think* they were different 62 vs 80.

I got to look at the Pig today and sure enough, there is one more digit that I failed to report. That pad with the 3F numbers stamped in in got pretty dirty...

So for now my 3F # is 017791x (hard to make out the last digit, looks like 5 or 8?)

So I believe it to be an '88

I might be under mine tomorrow....... I'll take a peak if I am.

RocDoc,
Not sure if you meant "under it" literally but if so, you can't see it from the underside. Its viewed from the top side looking on the passenger side of the engine block near the dipstick tube.

 Good to know. If I'm under it, I'll pop the hood too and have a peak. Engine is pretty grimy though...

The date code on my head shows 8 1 21

Which if take from here https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/253031-improving-flow-3fe%92s-top-end-2.html is correct:

I think the date code is 8 1 11, i.e. 1988 january 11th.

Then I am running a 3FE made around January 21rst, 1988 (10 days after RockDoc's

Cool!

That is the casting & part #.
A 61031 head is open chamber, used in USA 78-80 carbureted 2F, IIRC.

According to the global catalog, that head is only used on 2F engines, never on 3F.

Edit: A 1986 FJ62 w/ 3F and 5spd should have a 11101-61060 head, FWIW.

Yes, the 61031 is only used on 2F. The lightweight 2F/3F heads have a propensity for cracking, so it is not uncommon to find them replaced by the relatively indestructible 61030 or 61031. The resulting 6:1 compression ratio is a drawback of using the old head on a newer engine.

yup I thought it was a complete 3f
But I highly doubt the junk yard owner knows this much detail about 2f and 3f.
I am almost certain the engine came this way from Japan. Whoever did whatever they did was in Japan.
engine dealers here buy lots of engines in Japan and then bring them to Pakistan and sell them.
Plus the way the engine is put together I am almost certain it was not assembled in Pakistan.
So what do you think? should I keep this engine or try finding another one?
Before finding this engine I looked all over Karachi and most of the 3F engines I found were old and burnt out.
This seemed to be the best looking engine I could find.
