You may need to refresh my memory ... but I think your 3B is from a 70-series?

One of the reasons I don't want to go much further here is that I don't really know if the knowledge I have for the starter motors on B-engines from BJ40s and those on 3B engines from BJ42s can be applied to a starter motor for a 70-series 3B.

In other words, my knowledge here is really restricted to late 70s and early 80s B-series engines.

My photo may help you decide on whether the nose cones match.

And here's more photos from other angles which may help you too:

And here's the same model starter on my spare engine:

PS. If you put as many details as you can of your cruiser in your signature line it'll help posters like me. (Those details often help me know which threads to avoid posting in :D ... as well as telling me which ones I may be able to offer helpful advice in.)

PPS. Actually - I guess your nose cone actually doesn't need to match mine .. for you to still pursue the "nose-cone-swap option". But it is still probably best for you to know which particular starter I have my limited knowledge based on.

Okey dokey 12V 2.5kW "minitruck starters:

28100-56041 or 54220 or 54090 off an LN56 2L Hilux (Aussi autotrans model) produced from Aug 83 to Aug 88 (according to my data).

(Note... Some of those starters may not have appeared ex-factory on that model hilux but they're all still supposed to fit that model.)

And 28100-54090 apparently appeared in European versions of the LN55, LN56 and LN65 models till Dec 89

And the Hilux was probably sold under different model names in some parts of the world so that's where the model code may be important.

Does that help?

As I recall some landcruiser prado models have a starter that can be used too but I haven't researched that here.

PS. The power output of starters on most other 12V diesel mintrucks is insufficient (ie lower than 2.5kW)

Easiest is to begin by making the engine the same voltage as the body it's going into. It's much easier to change engine voltage than the entire rest of the truck. Running two voltages is going to cause confusion down the road.

As for wiring. My BJ60 is 12v and uses the same glow system as you have pictured. You're welcome to look or ask questions. I'm currently staying in northern Germany. I was through Spain a month or so back when we drove up from Sierra Leone.

On the bottom picture you can ignore that wire. It is simply an indicator for when 4WD is engaged. If you have a 4WD light, that's the switch that turns it on or off.

dont know where id be without you guy,s !!!:beer::beer::beer:

Siera Leonne !! i have seen the film blood diamond !:whoops: respect you got the balls to go there man !!!!!
