Hey Guys,

Couldnt find this on a search so thought I would ask the question.

Question 1:

Does a 3B engine have a timing chain or serpentine belt?
And when should it be replaced.

I also have a Jetta TDI and I know its a big deal to change out the belt to avoid bent valves and costly engine repairs.

Question 2:

I am wanting to change out the front seal on the crankshaft as there is oil leaking and wondering how difficult it is.

Thanks!

Are you talking about a Toyota 3B or a VW 3B?

Thanks for the responses guys.

BEE-JAY i was referring to a Toyota 3B.

These gears, do they require any kind of maintenance, checkup, lube etc etc?
How would I inspect them to make sure they are ok?

Trying to get the truck reading for a big camping/hiking trip this summer and want to try to avoid breakdowns!! :p

The short answer is timing gears require no routine maintenace.
